Will it be after the Lord Mayor’s show and all that?

The likelihood is football games in La Liga this weekend will certainly pale in comparison to the great Barcelona Champions League comeback of midweek, but it certainly means the focus will be on the Catalans’ next adventure.

Live betting went into a frenzy after their thrilling fightback (largely aided by two highly questionable penalties) and fans will no doubt be on tenterhooks again when they next take to the field.

Can Deportivo overcome the sports betting odds and take advantage of potential exhaustion within their opponents ranks?

WEEK 27 SATURDAY:

Espanyol vs Las Palmas

After putting five past bottom club Osasuna, Las Palmas will travel to Espanyol full of confidence.
Indeed, the chance to move within a point of their hosts is tempting for the mid-tablers.
It would go against the form book, though, given their success last weekend was their first in six.

Valencia vs Sporting Gijon

Sporting’s 1-0 reverse to Deportivo last weekend may yet be a blow from which they fail to recover.
They now have to pick themselves up and try and reel in a gap of seven points from safety.
Valencia were well beaten at Atletico Madrid last time out but could afford a slip after their recent upsurge in form.

Sevilla vs Leganes

For Sevilla, their 1-1 draw at Alaves may just have fatally damaged their outside title hopes.
They still seem a good bet for a top-three berth, but fatigue among Jorge Sampaoli’s troops is now being talked about as the season enters the final two months.
Leganes have a safety battle of their own to contend with, buoyed by their victory over Granada when Darwin Machis consigned his parent club to defeat.

WEEK 27 SUNDAY:

Malaga vs Alaves

After holding Sevilla, Alaves can be forgiven for having a spring in their step.
Malaga, too, hope to have a spring in their step now a new boss, Michel, has arrived.
Their third manager of the season has signed an 18-month contract, but based on the recent trigger-happy decision making, he may not last that long.

Granada vs Atletico Madrid

Granada have it all to do again after their defeat to Leganes, but they have shown enough glimpses to suggest they can climb out of trouble.
However, they will surely consider taking anything from this fixture as a bonus.
Ahead of their big clash with Sevilla next weekend, Atletico will be keen to ensure Koke avoids a booking which would rule him out of that one.

Real Sociedad vs Athletic Bilbao

The second Basque derby of the season has both sides faring well in the table.
This time, it’s different with Sociedad: seven points clear of rivals they traditionally trail.
Bilbao could certainly do without the reported interest from Barcelona right now in coach Ernesto Valverde, whose contract runs out at the end of the campaign.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Barcelona

After the Lord Mayor’s show and all that for Barcelona.
All eyes will all be on Luis Enrique’s men after the incredible football spectacle that was their 6-1 success over PSG – the greatest fightback in Champions League history.
Aside from Luis Suarez’s theatrics, it was a sight to behold for the neutral.
Deportivo may not have won at the Estadio Riazor since mid-December but are showing signs of improvement under new boss Pepe Mel.

WEEK 27 MONDAY:

Celta Vigo vs Villarreal

Boosted by their last-gasp Europa League win the other night, Vigo set their sights on the Yellow Submarine.
Celta have been leaking goals aplenty, though, even before their 5-0 whipping at Barcelona last weekend.
Villarreal are not making life easy for themselves, either, as they bid to clinch another European campaign. A setback here could mean they’re out of the running for the fourth and final Champions League spot they so crave.

Real Madrid vs Real Betis

In a week in which much of the world’s focus has been on Barca, Real Madrid know they remain the team to beat.
Despite recent wobbles and a growing belief the momentum has moved towards the Catalan giants, Los Blancos remain in pole position.
Betis will want to avoid a repeat of the 6-1 drubbing Real gave them earlier in the season.

WEEK 27 TUESDAY:

Osasuna vs Eibar

There’s not much certainty in life, but Osasuna playing in the Segunda Division next season is as close as it gets in football terms.
With one league victory to their name all season, the 14-point gap to safety with 12 games remaining seems impossible to bridge.
Eibar will start as favourites to push the bottom club a step nearer the trap door and end their miserable one-season return to the top flight.
