Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach
Bayern Munich have long been the indomitable giants of the Bundesliga. The Bavarian side is always the top-of-mind option when you ask a fan of the German top flight on which club is worth a pretty penny in German football.
However, it’s no secret that Bayern are in a rut. They can’t buy a win after starting the season strong, planting seeds of doubt on the SBOBET predictions that the Bavarians would easily take the German crown for the seventh consecutive year.
Niko Kovac knows more than anyone that Bayern need to stop the skid with a statement game against Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena. However, he should also know that this Gladbach side is not a team that they can just use brute force on. A nonsensical start could easily see them end the first half on the back foot.
This significance of this game has increased over the past week, and the result of this fixture could determine whether Bayern would still have a relatively easy stroll to the Bundesliga title or they would have to duke it out with an outstanding Borussia Dortmund side for the rest of the season.
Talking Points
Kovac’s reign at the most successful football in Germany has hit a sudden roadblock after uncharacteristically drawing against Augsburg. They tried to get back against Hertha Berlin, but the shocking upset in the capital quickly became the biggest bit of Bundesliga 2018 news in the weekend. Their anguish didn’t end as Ajax almost ran away with the victory in the Champions League.
Kovac did admit that Bayern Munich’s rampage at the top of the Bundesliga have seemingly made things too easy for them and made it difficult for them to properly gauge how good the rest of the playing field has improved. He knows that the squad would have to get down and dirty if they want to end the rut.
One of the biggest glaring points for the neutral fan is the bold rotations Kovac implemented over the two weeks. The decision to rest some of their best players, alongside the omission of James Rodriguez from the starting XI.
The situation has gotten dire that even some of the players have voiced out the need for things to change in the way they are playing the game. Of course, it’s still too early to pull the plug on the Kovac project, but he definitely has to make changes fast.
He must seriously consider involving James in more games. Robert Lewandowski, who failed to make an impact in Bayern’s embarrassing loss in Berlin, must step up and make himself available for attacks. Moreover, the entire Bayern organisation, from the gaffer to the reserves, must recognise that the problem is existent and that they should do everything in their power to turn the tide.
This is especially true as they face a Gladbach squad that is a fighting shape that betrays their recent results. If you paid close attention to the way Die Fohlen have played thus far, there’s no question that Bayern will be up for one heck of a contest.
While it is true that Hertha Berlin handed them one heck of a defeat, they more than bounced back and gave Eintracht Frankfurt one heck of a beating. Moreover, the way they kept up with Wolfsburg in their latest Bundesliga match is a testament to the steely determination Dieter Hecking’s men have coming into the season.
I think the biggest revelations for Gladbach would be Thorgan Hazard’s continuous growth in the left wing and Alassane Plea’s dominance up front. The summer acquisition from Nice has immediately established himself as one of the league’s most dangerous target men. Meanwhile, Hazard has completely transformed himself into a dangerous attacking threat that is reminiscent of his brother Eden.
They can come into this game with the perfect challenger mentality and push Bayern to toil for the three points they want to earn. If Kovac cannot whip his boys to shape, he will surely find himself in a very sticky situation.
History
I personally think prior history matters a lot ahead of this match, but their head-to-head battles point easily towards Bayern Munich winning this match. Out of the 103 matches the two sides have played, Bayern won 51 of those while scoring 196 goals in the process. Gladbach only took 23 while scoring 128 strikes.
The most recent matches they played paint a more balanced picture, however. Four of the six games were won by the home team, with the victor not going beyond two goals. The exception to the rule is the most recent game, where Bayern overwhelmed their guests with a 5-1 drubbing at the Allianz Arena.

I have no reason to doubt Bayern Munich taking the three points this game. The Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach betting tips also point towards a Bavarian victory.
Kovac should be taking this game more seriously after tripping once again to considerably lesser opposition. Drawing against Monchengladbach is the last thing in his mind right now, and he will definitely pull out all the stops to force a Bayern win.
However, I don’t think Bayern will be able to win that comfortably. The Foals have scored at least two goals over their last four games, and I don’t think Plea and Hazard will want to stop wearing their shooting boots any time soon.
Moreover, Gladbach are better rested than their Bayern hosts as they have no European competition to worry about. This would be the perfect time for Kovac to make use of the rotations he made over the past week and field his best XI. However, rumours of a strained Bayern locker room suggest that this game won’t be an easy win for them.
Bayern will be in for a grimy game, but they should win if they keep their noses down and not look far ahead.
