Inter Milan vs Juventus
The Serie A league leaders welcome the reigning champions to the Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday, as Juventus visits Inter Milan in the Derby d’Italia.
It’s the biggest match in Europe for SBOBET Serie A fans, but Premier League supporters also have a keen interest — as two former Chelsea coaches clash — as do two ex Manchester United goal scorers.
Both Inter’s Antonio Conte and Juve’s Maurizio Sarri have managed Chelsea over the past three seasons, but now they are back in their homeland to fight it out as head coaches of the two best teams.
And after Cristiano Ronaldo made the switch from Real Madrid to Juventus last season, he’ll come up against another Old Trafford connection as the hosts are likely to be spearheaded by former Red Devil Romelu Lukaku.
It’s been a while since I Nerazzurri could seriously challenge Juventus, but this could be the year if they can continue as they have started. The latest Inter Milan vs Juventus betting odds have Inter as marginal favourite at 2.61 with I Bianconeri at 2.79 and the draw is available at odds of 3.05.
Talking Points
Conte has turned Inter into genuine contenders
Antonio Conte has spent much of his career in Turin; but the Juventus playing legend and former head coach is now in Milan and has got Inter playing some high quality football, winning all six league games so far, including the Milan Derby by two goals to nil and a victory away to struggling Sampdoria last week.
Inter dominated Serie A between 2006 and 2010 winning five successive Scudettos, but they have gone through a period of transition which fans hope is now over. They did suffer a small setback in the Champions League on Wednesday. Conte’s side went 1-0 up in the Camp Nou but ended up losing to Barcelona as Luis Suarez bagged a brace after Lautaro Martinez had given I Nerazzurri a shock second minute lead.
But that won’t worry Conte too much as he prepares his team for long campaigns in both Europe and Italy.
Both Inter and Juventus strengthened well in the summer transfer window and, while Napoli is sure to be there or thereabouts, I wouldn’t be surprised to see these two teams battle it out for the Scudetto.
Lukaku expected to be fit
Striker Romelu Lukaku missed the trip to Barcelona suffering from muscle fatigue, but I Nerazzurri are hopeful the Belgian hit man will be fit to return for the top of the table clash. Conte has been taking care of his prize asset, who he admired in his time in the Premier League, and he has already scored three league goals for his new club, as has midfield ace Stefano Sensi, on loan from Sassuolo.
But Lukaku could well be the key to Inter’s success. He’s proved he can score goals wherever he’s been, and at 26 he’s about ready to reach his peak.
Defences to dominate?
Inter’s and Juve’s summer recruitment drive also picked up two of the best defenders in word football and now each has a formidable centre back pairing.
Conte prized Diego Godin away from Atletico Madrid, and the Uruguayan tough guy now lines up alongside Stefan de Vrij.
I Bianconeri has probably the only player who compares with Godin in terms of rock like reliability in Leonardo Bonucci, and he has been joined by football playing centre back Matthijs de Ligt.
Both teams have conceded less than a goal a game so far, and there have been fewer than 2.5 goals in five of the last six meetings between these two sides.
History
The Old Lady has dominated the head to heads in recent years. In the 60 games played since 1993. Inter has won 13 to Juve’s 27 and there have been 20 draws.
This game finished 1-1 last season when Ronaldo equalised a Radja Nainggolan opener with his 600th club goal.
Current form is impressive at both clubs. Juve is unbeaten in nine while Inter has a 100 per cent home record, so something will have to give.
Betting Tip
Inter Milan vs Juventus | Inter Milan Asian Handicap 0.00 @ 1.92 | |
October 7, 02:45 (GMT+8) |
This is a game to get the pulses racing, and one which could set the tone for the remainder of the season. There is very little to choose between the two teams, with Juve DNB at 2.02.
But the Old Lady hasn’t been so impressive away from home, scoring only three goals in three games — which included at 0-0 draw against Fiorentina — so I’m giving the hosts a tiny edge.
It’s sure to be an epic clash, so make sure you’re back here on Sunday night for all the best Serie A 2019 updates!
