NBA: Kemba Walker Finds Rhythm, Karl Anthony-Towns Dominates, Lakers Get First Win

The 2019/20 season is already underway and basketball fans all over the world can’t get enough of the action!

Nine games were played last night, with teams like the Celtics, Timberwolves, Nets, Wizards, Bulls, Mavericks, Nuggets. Trail Blazers, and the Lakers emerging victorious against their opponents.

SBOBET offers you a recap on all of the games that were played last Saturday.

Boston Celtics 112-106 Toronto Raptors

After a horrendous start in their loss against the Philadelphia 76ers, Kemba Walker found his form by notching 22 points, six rebounds, and two blocks in their first home win against the defending champions, the Toronto Raptors.

Boston let out a scoring flurry in the final period to where they outscored the visitors 30-17 in the last nine minutes. They were able to withstand a late rally by the Raptors after Jaylen Brown knocked down a three-pointer with 2:49 to play and when defencive stops were made.

Walker was backstopped by the young duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum who tallied identical statlines of 25 points, nine rebounds, and four assists each.

Minnesota Timberwolves 121-99 Charlotte Hornets

Karl Anthony-Towns finishes with 37 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists in Minnesota's recent NBA match

Karl Anthony-Towns took advantage of the opponents’ thin frontcourt by pouring in 37 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists in a rout against the Charlotte Hornets. It was their second win of the season.

The Hornets were missing the services of Cody Zeller who was out due to personal reasons leaving the likes of Bismack Biyombo and Willy Hernangomez to guard the two-time NBA All-Star.

After a close first half, the Timberwolves unleashed a 45-point third quarter buoyed by their opportunistic defence. They scored 20 points off of Charlotte’s 21 turnovers and that proved to be the difference.

Brooklyn Nets 113-109 New York Knicks

Kyrie Irving didn’t score 50 points this time, but he still produced some of the best NBA 2019 highlights en route to their first win of the season against the Knicks.

After leading for the majority of the game, the Nets saw the visitors take the lead when Wayne Ellington and RJ Barrett made some key plays with 3:41 to play.

Kyrie Irving responded with a personal run on his own, including the go-ahead three with 22 seconds left as the Nets held on for a close win.

Washington Wizards 97-85 Oklahoma City Thunder

It seemed like the Thunder were about to take over the game when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander knocked down a jumper to draw level in the closing minutes against the Washington Wizards. However, the Wizards were unfazed and made some big plays to steal the victory.

A jump hook by Rui Hachimura and a late trey by Bradley Beal fueled a 14-0 run that iced the game for the visitors.

It didn’t help for the home team as well when they shot just under 40-percent and had 19 turnovers.

Thomas Bryant led the way for the Wizards with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, while rookie forward Rui Hachimura scored 19 and the newly-extended Bradley Beal poured in 17 for Washington.

Chicago Bulls 110-102 Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies were threatening to come away with a huge win, but the Chicago Bulls didn’t back down via a strong second half.

Fueled by the duo of Zach LaVine and Coby White, they combined to score 62 points in this win.

Memphis ended the first half with a 13-point advantage over the visitors. White, who was held to merely four points at the time, came out by firing 21 of his 25 markers in the second half.

The teams exchanged leads up until the last two minutes. But in the end, Zach LaVine scored on a drive late to pull away for good.

Dallas Mavericks 123-116 New Orleans Pelicans

Luka Doncic continues his stellar showing by chipping in a triple-double to lift the Mavericks over the Pelicans for a 2-0 start. He notched 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

After being drawn 109-all with five minutes left, Dallas went on a 6-0 mini-run capped off by a Jalen Brunson turnaround.

Brandon Ingram got a three to go to trail only by three, but Luka Doncic made a floater and a left-wing bank shot trey with 1:23 left and the Pelicans never recovered.

The home team was still missing the services of the explosive Zion Williamson, who was sidelined due to an injury.

Denver Nuggets 108-107 Phoenix Suns

The Nuggets were in need of a spark especially when the game went to the distance, and they found that in Jamal Murray as he helped the team hold on to a close victory against the Suns.

Ricky Rubio extended the game in improbable fashion when he tried to heave a long bomb and he was fouled by Malik Beasley. He made all three free throws.

But in the end, it was Jamal Murray who would be the hero for the Nuggets. He poured in seven of his 27 points in OT, including two free throws to give his team the lead for good.

Portland Trail Blazers 122-112 Sacramento Kings

Portland overcame a sluggish first half but it couldn’t shake Sacramento up until Dame Time took over in the final period.

The four-time All-Star scored 13 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter, including a 31-footer from the court logo.

His backcourt mate CJ McCollum who sparked a crucial second quarter run scored 19 while Hassan Whiteside poured in 22.

Los Angeles Lakers 95-86 Utah Jazz

The star combo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis catapulted the Lakers to their first victory of the season by scoring 32 and 21 points respectively.

The Lakers never trailed after the opening minutes and they continued to step on the gas pedal through the rest of the way.

As long as the Lakers perform like this, their NBA 2019 odds of winning a title are looking brighter by the day.
