Bournemouth vs Manchester United
What a difference a week makes. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went into the international break with just a defeat to Newcastle United to occupy his mind.
But in the eight days since the resumption, his Manchester United team have ended Liverpool’s mammoth winning run, taken a grip on their Europa League group and then put in their best performance since the opening day of the season to coast past Norwich City.
Premier League; Bournemouth vs Manchester United is the weekend opener and now the Red Devils would love to have some Cherries for their Saturday lunchtime treat!
But they will have to work hard.
The two teams are locked together on 13 points in the Premier League with Manchester United’s goal difference lifting them to seventh, two places above their hosts. Our SBOBET odds predict a tight game. Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth plays better at the Vitality Stadium than on their travels, only losing to Manchester City at home so far this season.
Talking Points
Rashford is key to Red Devils’ season
Solskjaer’s biggest problem so far has been getting his players to attack with intent and dominate their opponents. Too many have been off their game, but their main man up front is starting to gather some momentum. Marcus Rashford looked back to near his best against Liverpool in the recent 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. He slammed home his first half chance without fear and has now reached five league goals for the campaign.
Manchester United headed down to Norwich last week, with some trepidation, but they produced more, in terms of attacking football, than they had all season. With 21 shots on goal, they ran out comfortable winners and even managed to miss two penalties. Rashford and Anthony Martial were both on target in the 1-3 win, but both had spot-kicks saved by Tim Krul. And the form of Martial could be a big boost to Rashford if he can find some consistency.
The French striker scored the winner away to Partizan Belgrade last Thursday, which puts the Red Devils clear at the top of Europa League Group L.
Back to domestic matters Solskjaer will know that few Premier League defences will be as generous as the Canaries, and while Bournemouth have hit a sticky patch, they have only conceded once in the last three games. Solskjaer will still be without Paul Pogba in midfield and will rely on the continuing improvements in Fred and Andrea Pereira to give his front two some support.
Cherries have Premier League nous
Eddie Howe’s team has been much admired for their attacking flair over the past three seasons but equally have been prone to taking the odd hammering on a tour around the country. But the Cherries are beginning to look steelier when they are not attacking for fun.
Bournemouth made another bright start to the campaign but they are without a win in five in all competitions. And they come into this match on the back of one point from three games and, most recently, back-to-back goalless draws against Watford and Norwich, two teams they would expect to beat.
They have plenty of creative threat in the shape of top scorer Callum Wilson, backed by the likes of Harry Wilson and Ryan Fraser, but it is the defensive unit which has taken the plaudits more recently. Captain Steve Cook alongside Nathan Ake makes a strong centre back pairing, and young goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been praised for his first two Premier League clean sheets. He has already made 32 saves in the league this season and earned a new long term contract.
History
Since Howe introduced the Premier League to his Cherries back in 2015, he hasn’t had a lot of luck in terms of Bournemouth vs Manchester United results, winning one, drawing one and losing six of the eight encounters.
The Red Devils have won the last four, hammering Bournemouth 4-1 at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve last season, just two months after they had triumphed 1-2 at the Vitality Stadium.
Betting Tip
Bournemouth vs Manchester United | Under 2.50 @ 2.05 | |
October 2, 20:30 (GMT+8) |
The latest Bournemouth vs Manchester United betting odds have the Red Devils slightly odds against to win this match at 2.26, while the Cherries are at 3.05 and the draw is 3.55. But, despite their recent improvement I think United will struggle to dominate their south coast hosts.
Bournemouth will have had more time to prepare as Manchester United faced a midweek Carabao Cup fourth round match away to Chelsea and will expect to pick up at least another point. For a decent alternative for a long shot bet, 1-1 at odds of 6.00 could be worth a closer look.
