AS Roma 3-1 Juventus
It isn’t over ’til it’s over – just ask Roma about that!
Down by one early in the game, Roma battled back with three goals at the Stadio Olimpico to put a dent on Juventus’ title charge and excite online betting even more.
Sure enough, sports betting pundits still have the Old Lady winning their sixth successive scudetto, but Roma’s latest victory will make betting odds tight as the Serie A enters its penultimate chapter next week.
Although without playmaker Paulo Dybala – who was put on the bench by Max Allegri to rest him as they prepare for the Italian Cup and Champions League final – Juventus still looked to be in control of the game when Mario Lemina put them ahead in the 21st minute.
Roma, however, didn’t give Juve any time to prepare for a championship celebration as they equalised soon after through Daniele De Rossi who stabbed the ball home past Gianluigi Buffon from close range.
The Yellow and Reds bright start carried over in the second half, and their fans had a lot more to celebrate with Stephan El Shaarawy filling in the void left by the injured Edin Dzeko to meet high expectations following his brilliant showing in Milan.
Shaarawy turned the game around for the hosts, firing low into the bottom corner of the net on 56 minutes to give them the lead for good. Radja Nainggolan then crashed home a third after evading two defenders and beating Buffon near the post.
Allegri sent Dybala onto the field with the score at 3-1, but he wasn’t able to change the momentum as Roma held on to cut Juve’s lead from the top to just four points with two games to play.
Meanwhile, Napoli extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches and briefly experienced climbing to second after hammering Torino 5-0 at Turin. With Roma’s win, Napoli also have a mathematical chance of winning the title.
On the other end of the table, 18th-placed Crotone improved their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Udinese. They still have a legitimate chance of making it out of the drop zone after 17th-placed Empoli lost to Cagliari 3-2, while 16th-placed Genoa fell to Palermo 1-0.
