Manchester City 4-1 Real Madrid
City fans had a real treat at the Los Angeles Coliseum this morning when their heroes blew the Champions of Europe away in a second-half goal fest.
Ninety-three thousand fans enjoyed a spectacular show, and it’s football games just like this which has spread the popularity of the beautiful game across the US. For neutrals and football betting enthusiasts too, watching some of the best players in the world pit themselves against each other is a joy.
So good were City after the break, that pre-match betting tips suggesting a close game were brushed aside, along with a Los Blancos side packed with talent. Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema started for Real, while Danilo made his first appearance in City colours in a first half dominated by the keepers and gave few clues as what was to come.
City’s Ederson denied Isco with a fine save while Keylor Navas showed great form and bravery to deny both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. But he could do nothing in the 52nd minute when Nicolas Otamendi poked home from close range. Man-of-the-match Kevin De Bruyne then fed Raheem Sterling for the second, and it was De Bruyne again who found defender John Stones to steer the ball home with all the expertise of a striker.
Seventeen-year-old Brahim Diaz completed the rout, smashing the ball into the top corner on 81 minutes. But there was still time for Real to grab a consolation: Arnaiz Oscar firing the goal of the game from all of 30 yards.
What a treat for the packed crowd, and a satisfying job done for Pep.
