Bayern Munich 0-2 Inter Milan
It’s no understatement that football betting forums and the Bayern Munich faithful were distressed by the poor form shown by Carlo Ancelotti’s men throughout their International Champions Cup stint.
The Bundesliga champions were made to endure terrible losses against Arsenal and AC Milan. While they were able to stop a Chelsea comeback to win 2-3, Bayern’s defeat in their Asian tour match definitely gave the Italian boss points to think about for their future football games.
The glaring area of concern Ancelotti needs to address is the leaky defence the Bavarians displayed in Singapore. Both of Eder Martins’ goals were headers that came from crosses: the first one was from an Antonio Candreva cross in the eighth minute while Ivan Perisic whipped in the ball in the 30th minute.
The Bayern backline was caught off countless times during the match. There were opportunities for Inter in the second half where there were only a few Bayern bodies in the penalty box. It’s pretty obvious from afar that there is a lack of solid coordination between Sven Elreich and the Mats Hummels-led defence.
Another important thing of note is the absence of a definite scoring threat. Robert Lewandowski and James Rodriguez up front look terrifying on paper, but the two stars still have things to sort out. Moreover, many of Munich’s shot attempts were either made way outside the box or in a penalty box full of Inter shirts.
The Italian gaffer and his entire coaching staff have a lot to talk about on the plane back to Bavaria. Do they need to buy new players? Do they need to adjust their system? Do they need to bench James the same way Zinedine Zidane did during the Colombian’s Madrid stint thus far?
We’ll only know the answer once the Bundesliga begins.
