The NBA is about to get super…super exciting, super fun and literally any positive word you can connect with “super.”
Many might think that’s just an exaggeration; but make no mistake, with the formation of new ‘Big 3s’ and ‘Super Duos’ (sorry), the league is bound to have tastier live betting competitions.
NBA Season Preview
The Golden State Warriors—the super team of super teams—remain as the online betting favourites. After keeping their core intact, thanks to Kevin Durant taking a discount, they are projected to make a return trip to the NBA finals. They are currently at betting odds of 1.20 to dominate the Western Conference.
LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers, meanwhile, are at 1.35 to win the East. Despite losing Kyrie Irving, they acquired 5-foot-9 scoring juggernaut Isaiah Thomas, signed the ageing-but-still-reliable Dwyane Wade, and got former MVP Derrick Rose to add to their ranks.
The Dubs and Cavs are still the kings of their respective conferences, but there are new contenders ready to take away their throne.
The Boston Celtics (2.50) revamped their East-leading team last season and formed a new lineup that features Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, and Al Horford. They might not be as stacked as the Wine and Gold, but the Beantown definitely have a legitimate chance of regaining their former glory.
Other teams such as the Washington Wizards (12.00) and the Toronto Raptors (18.00) are pretty much solid as well, and both are capable of upsetting the East top dogs.
Out West, on the other hand, several stars banded together to have a shot at ending the Warriors’ domination.
The Houston Rockets offloaded a lot of players this offseason, but they did so to pair up Chris Paul with James Harden. The move created one of the scariest backcourt duos in the league, so it’s no wonder why the Rockets are at odds of 5.50.
Oklahoma (11.00) also seem to have finally moved on from Durant’s departure, and in the process formed their three-headed monster of reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony.
The Minnesota Timberwolves (21.00) look ready to take off as well, with their squad that now has Jimmy Butler playing alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. The same goes for New Orleans Pelicans (41.00) who will be expecting results from their twin tower of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.
Other Western teams that shouldn’t be forgotten are the San Antonio Spurs (7.00) and the LA Clippers (46.00). The Spurs have Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge, not to mention Gregg Popovich is still at the helm—which of course makes them instant contenders.
The Clips, meanwhile, ended the era of Chris Paul, but they acquired Patrick Beverley and Serbian passing wizard Milos Teodosic to start a new age of Lob City. Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan also remain to give the Tinseltown group more star power.
Teams like the Milwaukee Bucks (21.00), Philadelphia 76ers (25.00), Miami Heat (31.00), Denver Nuggets (51.00) and Los Angeles Lakers (61.00) are anticipated to improve and make a splash in their conferences. However, expectations aren’t high on their ability to upset the top-tier squads.
The NBA has announced a lot of changes for the upcoming NBA season this summer, from making rules to discourage tanking to changing the All-Star format, so there’s certainly plenty to watch out this campaign. And with how things are shaping up, another fantastic year is undoubtedly ahead!
