While the blockbuster Merseyside and Manchester derbies dominate the North West, there are plenty of fantastic matches around the Premier League to whet the appetite of sports betting fans. Chelsea are still in the title race while Spurs falters. At the bottom end West Ham and Crystal Palace desperately need points.
WEEK 16 SATURDAY:
West Ham United vs Chelsea
Hammers fans who daren’t look at the betting odds on an unthinkable relegation, look away now. They are 1.95! Since his arrival David Moyes has extracted more effort from his expensive squad but four defeats in five makes miserable reading. Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata is looking for his tenth league goal and if results go with the Blues, they could reduce the gap to the top to eight points.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City
One point from three games has all but excluded Spurs from the title race and top scorer Harry Kane, with ten, can’t do it all on his own. Christian Eriksen has been excellent but Dele Alli less so, and they’ll need to be on their game to overcome a stubborn Stoke side which beat Swansea last week to rise to 13th.
Burnley vs Watford FC
Seventh plays eighth as Sean Dyche’s Clarets welcome Marco Silva’s Hornets. Burnley will be without influential winger Robbie Brady, though in Chris Wood they have an all-round striker to trouble any defence. But Watford’s attack is full of menace, spearheaded by five-goal Richarlison. This should be a cracker.
Huddersfield Town vs Brighton & Hove Albion
These two new boys both made fantastic starts to life at the top table but while Brighton continue to hold their own, there are worrying signs for the Terriers who have lost the last four, scoring once and conceding 13. They’ll find it difficult to breach the Seagull’s defence too, marshalled by Shane Duffy.
Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth
The Eagles have pulled themselves up into the relegation pack and they have another good chance to pick up valuable points against Eddie Howe’s Cherries. A win could take Palace out of the bottom three and drag Bournemouth, currently five points ahead, back into the mix.
Swansea City vs West Bromwich Albion
It’s starting to look extremely serious for Paul Clement’s Swans. The recruitment of Tammy Abraham, Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony has failed to lift them and this has the look of a must win game. But there are no easy opponents in the Premier League, certainly not West Brom, with the superb Jonny Evans at the back.
WEEK 16 SUNDAY:
Newcastle United vs Leicester City
The Foxes are on the march and up to ninth after winning seven points from the last three games. The Magpies, in contrast, have won a single point in the last six and look in trouble in 15th. They need big performances from the likes of Jonjo Shelvey to arrest the slump.
Southampton vs Arsenal
Arsene Wenger’s Gunners couldn’t believe how they lost to Manchester United last week but they did and now they need to react. This is the sort of game they can win, against a Southampton side which have yet to really get going. With Arsene’s target, once again, a top four place, it’s certainly not one to lose.
