After watching the Lakers and Rockets play a double-overtime yesterday, sports betting fans were treated to another live betting drama as two of the four games today also went to extra period.
Despite some valiant efforts from the underdogs, however, the online betting favourites still came out on top, with Toronto even witnessing history as DeMar DeRozan scored the most points in franchise history.
Orlando Magic 95-98 Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn’s 2018 is off to a good start after edging Orlando at home.
Although Orlando’s Elfrid Payton managed to tie the game at 95-all with under a minute left on the clock, it was the Nets who came out victorious after they took the lead with free throws. Evan Fournier and D.J. Augustin had a chance to equalise for the Magic again, but both missed their three-pointers.
Jarrett Allen scored 16 off the bench to lead Brooklyn, while Aaron Gordon and Bismack Biyombo bagged double-doubles in points and rebounds in a losing effort for the visitors.
Milwaukee Bucks 127-131 Toronto Raptors
DeMar DeRozan tallied 52 points, eight assists and five rebounds to power the Raptors past Milwaukee, who had Eric Bledsoe and Giannis Antetokounmpo combining for 55 markers.
The game went into overtime as Milwaukee ran riot in the fourth quarter. However, DeRozan was just too hot to handle as he scored eight of Toronto’s 17 points in extended time to pace them to victory.
DeRozan’s backcourt running mate Kyle Lowry chipped in 26 to help counter a Bucks team that had six players reaching double-digit marks.
Portland Trail Blazers 124-120 Chicago Bulls
Chicago were ahead by the end of the third quarter, but they failed to hold on to their lead as Portland fought back mightily behind CJ McCollum’s 32 points.
McCollum sent the game to overtime with a floating jumper in the final minute of play before piling more misery on the rising Bulls. The 26-year-old star guard then scored six of the Blazers’ 12 points in extra period to upset the Windy City fans.
Big games from Evan Turner and Al-Farouq Aminu also helped Portland in the absence of the injured Damian Lillard.
Los Angeles Lakers 96-114 Minnesota Timberwolves
This match was already decided by the end of the third quarter, with the Wolves ahead by 15 entering the final frame.
Los Angeles clearly missed Lonzo Ball as their offence and ball movement remained stagnant, dishing only 18 assists throughout 48 minutes.
Minnesota took advantage of that and pulled away early. Jimmy Butler led the Wolves with 28 points while Andrew Wiggins scored 21 and corralled nine boards.
