NBA Preview: Anthony Davis, Lakers and the League-Wide Drama

The NBA is all about a player who won’t even be available to play this Wednesday.

Anthony Davis put all teams on alert after his camp announced that he wouldn’t sign an extension with the New Orleans Pelicans. Subsequently, the 25-year-old big man requested a trade to a championship contending team.

That’s undoubtedly a massive blow for the Pels who are hoping to build a contender around Davis. However, it comes as good news to all other franchise looking to compete for the title this season, particularly the Los Angeles Lakers—Davis’ long-rumoured suitor.

The Pels will hope to move on and, possibly, convince Davis that they are the best choice when they take on the surging Houston Rockets. On the other hand, the Lakers are set to show The Brow what awaits him in Hollywood should they be able to work out a deal before next week’s trade deadline.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Detroit Pistons (January 30, 08:00 GMT+8)

One of the revelations in the Milwaukee Bucks’ defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder is that the league’s No.1 defensive team can be beaten beyond the arc. The Thunder converted 16 of their 32 attempts from deep, with All-Star Paul George accounting for eight of those makes.

Fortunately for the Bucks, they don’t have to worry defending against a Detroit team that ranks as one of the league’s worst offensive squad. The Pistons are struggling to make their shots, and it doesn’t help that only Blake Griffin shot well in their past three games.

Betting Tip: Milwaukee Bucks First Half Asian Handicap -3.00 @ 1.91.

Washington Wizards @ Cleveland Cavaliers (January 30, 08:00 GMT+8)

The Cleveland Cavaliers will do themselves a favour by losing here. While the Cavs try hard to gain respectability, they are also reducing their chances of landing the 2019 top pick that could very well become Zion Williamson come June.

Washington, at 10th in the East, is still in the playoff hunt because … they are in the East! And they know that this game is a good chance for them to reduce the lead of the ninth-seeded Pistons.

Bradley Beal has been the main man for the Wizards as they push to be in the NBA playoffs

Bradley Beal has been balling for the Wizards in the absence of John Wall. In the 14 games since Wall was sidelined, Beal averaged 27.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.3 steals.

Betting Tip: Under 219.00 @ 1.96.

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Orlando Magic (January 30, 08:00 GMT+8)

PG13 is not only playing like a true All-Star but also like a legitimate MVP Candidate. While his impact on the offensive end can be seen, he has also been tremendous for OKC on the other end of the floor—so great that he’s a front-runner for the Defensive Player of the Year award!

Orlando Magic have the talent and tools to be special. However, they can’t seem to close out games and have now lost three in a row.

Betting Tip: Oklahoma City Thunder Asian Handicap -5.00 @ 1.88.

Chicago Bulls @ Brooklyn Nets (January 30, 08:30 GMT+8)

Six wins in their last seven games had the Brooklyn Nets dreaming of a playoff berth once again.

Brooklyn are surging behind D’Angelo Russell, and it’s hard not to take notice as the 22-year-old is averaging a career-high 19.2 points per game on top of 3.8 boards, 6.4 dimes and 1.1 steals.

The Bulls, on the other hand, are on a full rebuild and aren’t expected to compete in the game—not after pushing themselves to lose against the Cavs anyway.

The biggest concern for the Nets is the absence of Spencer Dinwiddie, who grabbed the NBA 2019 news headlines when he announced he’ll undergo surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right thumb. Nonetheless, that should be a manageable situation against the Bulls.

Betting Tip: Brooklyn Nets Asian Handicap -7.50 @ 2.03.

New Orleans Pelicans @ Houston Rockets(January 30, 09:00 GMT+8)

This match may not be the main event of the gameday, but it will sure draw a lot of attention considering the storyline and players involved.

Davis has been ruled out of this game with a finger injury; and handing another blow, it seems he has already played his last game for the Pelicans.

The Rockets have split their last two meetings with New Orleans, but they certainly see an opportunity to get the lead in their season series. Not that they need the advantage though, especially with James Harden putting up a league-leading 36.3 points on a nightly basis.

Betting Tip: Houston Rockets First Half Asian Handicap -5.50 @ 1.89.

Phoenix Suns @ San Antonio Spurs(January 30, 09:30 GMT+8)

The NBA 2019 odds at SBOBET are clear about this one. The Phoenix Suns, losers of eight consecutive games, have little to no chance of winning against a superior San Antonio Spurs team.

San Antonio have already won twice against the Suns, and they should be able to win the series as LaMarcus Aldridge continue to produce monster numbers in the absence of DeMar DeRozan.

Rookie big man Deandre Ayton—who missed the Suns’ recent back-to-back games with the Minnesota Timberwolves—remains out as well, giving Phoenix more headache as they look to find an answer for Aldridge.

Betting Tip: Under  217.50 @ 2.05.

Philadelphia 76ers @ Los Angeles Lakers (January 30, 11:30 GMT+8)

LeBron James and Lakers are surely awaiting the King's NBA comeback

LeBron James is unlikely to play as he recovers from the groin injury he suffered on Christmas against the Golden State Warriors. Nevertheless, the Lakers will still be the talk of the town, all because of AD.

The Purple and Gold will likely try to negotiate a trade for AD before the deadline, which means players like Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart and Brandon Ingram could be sidelined to avoid injury.

Kuzma and Hart have missed the past few games due to separate injuries, but the team is reportedly hopeful that they’ll be able to feature in this match-up.

Philadelphia need every win they can get to climb the East standings further, and it should help that they are brimming with confidence after winning two of their three games last week (against the Spurs and Rockets).

Betting Tip: Philadelphia 76ers Asian Handicap -6.00 @ 1.88.
