NBA: Can Anthony Davis Bring LA to the Promise Land?

It wasn’t too long ago when the Los Angeles Lakers were a floundering team in the NBA even when LeBron James came over after his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James came to a Lakers team who was in dire need of superstars in order to put themselves back into the conversation as one of the best teams in the league.

Filled with young players who are still unproven, the Lakers showed glimpses of their potential last season but eventually missed out on a playoff berth when LeBron James suffered a groin injury that would sideline him for a huge chunk of the season.

On the other side of the West, Anthony Davis was disgruntled with the underachieving Pelicans and he requested for a trade. And during the offseason, his wish would come true when he was sent over to LA and form a dangerous duo with LeBron James.

Together, they would lead the Lakers to the best record in the Western Conference with a 49-14 record and they are primed for a championship run this season.

If it only wasn’t for the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we would still be seeing these two spoil us with more NBA 2020 highlights!

But for now, allow SBOBET to take a look into how and why this marriage has been successful so far.

Davis makes his DPOY case

Trading away Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram and a couple of draft picks has been worth it for Los Angeles as Anthony Davis is what the doctor ordered for them.

At 6-foot-10, Davis provides the interior presence that the Lakers need plus he can score in bunches as well.

With career norms of 24 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, the former top overall pick is a double-double threat on a per-game basis.

His main calling card is his defence as he is adept at swatting opponents’ shots away. Davis is also a monster on the glass as he can grab rebounds in traffic.

Not only is he great at patrolling the paint, he is also versatile enough to defend some of the fastest guards in the league. Especially in this day and age where defencive switches are more prevalent, Davis’ length and mobility can bother all players in different positions.

Prior to the start of the season, Anthony Davis made it clear that he has major aspirations to winning the championship and the Defensive Player of the Year award. It isn’t a stretch to think that he could win the award given he was in the All-Defensive First Team back in the 2018 season.

James and Davis have clicked from the get-go

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are determined to lead the Lakers to NBA glory

They both share the same agent and now they share the spotlight in Hollywood. Anthony Davis and LeBron James have been a tandem made in heaven over these past few months.

It’s no coincidence that LeBron James is having a career year with assists with 10.6 per game as he has found an ideal target with Anthony Davis.

The lanky big man would always be on the receiving end of lobs and magical passes by James and he would finish often with ease as a testament to his overall talent.

Anthony Davis has always been known as a multilevel scorer as he can shoot inside and outside, but he has been ultra efficient this year thanks to a much better supporting cast.

In his time with New Orleans, Davis would almost always have to do it all by himself on both ends of the floor. And even when he does, the Pelicans would end up losing more often than not.

Now with a stacked deck with the Lakers, it’s hard to see anyone slowing down Anthony Davis one-on-one. And with LeBron James getting up there with age, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Brow will be given keys to the city since he is in the midst of his prime.

Will the Lakers win it all this year?

With the duo of Davis and James, the Lakers have seen their NBA 2020 odds of winning a title increase as they rack up wins consistently. But for sure, teams like the Clippers and the Bucks have something to say about that.

But right before the season ended, the Purple and Gold defeated these two contenders in just a span of the week showing everyone that they’re more than ready to bring home the franchise’s 17th title.

For the better part of the decade, LeBron James has already proven himself as a big time player in the postseason while Anthony Davis has yet to do so given his limited playoff experience.

With that said, a healthy and in-form Anthony Davis will spell the difference between winning and losing for the Lakers this season.
