NBA: All-Star Starters and All-Star Reserves

The 2024 NBA All-Star weekend is on the horizon! This year’s programme will be as highly anticipated as ever, with events like the Slam Dunk Contest, Three-Point Contest, and Rising Stars Challenge featured on the marquee. But the event that will culminate the entire weekend is the world-famous All-Star Game.

As it’s been since the beginning, the ALG will be for the fans. Which is why the All-Star starters will be determined by three voting groups: fans (50 per cent) NBA players (25 per cent) media panel (25 per cent), while the reserves will be determined by the 30 NBA head coaches.

So, without further ado, here are your 2024 NBA All-Star Game rosters.

Western Conference:

The Western Conference starters are more of the same, but with a surprise addition.

Nikola Jokic: At the center position, it’s none other than the Joker, Nikola Jokic. The defending NBA Champions and NBA Finals MVP hasn’t lost a step since winning the championship last season. The Joker is averaging 26.3 points, 12.2 rebounds, and nine assists. He has been successful in keeping the ship afloat in Denver amidst the injury-riddled season of his running mate, Jamal Murray.

LeBron James: LBJ, 39, is the captain of the Western Conference squad. The King will make his record 20th All-Star appearance this year. All hail the King! LBJ is averaging 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season with the Lakers. He’s now in his 21st year in the league, and honestly, there’s still no sign of him slowing down.

Kevin Durant: Garnering the other forward spot is the Slim Reaper himself, Kevin Durant. KD is still one of the most potent players in the NBA, averaging 28.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists with the Phoenix Suns. The 35-year-old is leading the Suns to a formidable run in the West after a slow start to the season.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant have been staples as All-Star starters since time immemorial, and they continue their legacy as two of the most primetime-worthy players as they start in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game.

Luka Doncic: Luka Doncic led the fan voting in the Western Conference All-Star backcourt. The 24-year-old phenom is averaging close to a triple-double this season with 34.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 9.4 assists for the Dallas Mavericks. It helps his case as an All-Star starter that he dropped 73 points last month against the Hawks.

The question now is: who will be Luka’s backcourt partner to complete the West starters? Well, at the top of this SBOTOP writer’s head, it would be Steph Curry. Or so I thought.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: To complete the Western Conference starters, the last spot goes to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. SGA has been out of this world this season! The 25-year-old floor general of the OKC Thunder has been a walking bucket and a bigtime player all throughout the campaign, and with his meteoric rise, he has led the OKC to the summit of the tough Western Conference with a record of 35-15.

SGA is more than deserving, and it would be a disservice to the game if another name eclipsed his as a Western Conference All-Star Starter.

Reserves:

Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns

Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers

Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves

Paul George, LA Clippers

Kawhi Leonard, LA Clippers

Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves

Eastern Conference:

The Eastern Conference starters are much more straight-forward, having household names and Indiana’s very own as the starting five.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Giannis has seen his fair share of All-Star games as the skipper of the Eastern Conference, and he will do more of the same in the 2024 ASG in Indiana. The leader of the Bucks garnered the most fan votes in the polls, making this term the 8th of his career. The Greek Freak, as usual, is having a dominant season, averaging 31.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks with the Bucks.

Jayson Tatum: Another no-brainer for the Eastern Conference starters is none other than Boston’s Jayson Tatum. Simply put, Tatum is the best player on the best team in the league. The 25-year-old forward is averaging 22.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists with the Celtics this season. And all eyes are on them once the playoffs start, as they’re the NBA 2024 odds favourites to win the chip this season.

Damian Lillard: It’s been a long time coming. Finally, Damian Lillard makes his first starting appearance in the ASG! After seven All-Star selections with the Trail Blazers, Dame Time finally gets the opportunity to be selected as an ASG starter. Moving to the East was the key for Lillard to become a starter, but his production with the Bucks this season definitely makes his case as a starter valid. This season, Dame is averaging 25 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists.

Tyrese Haliburton: Like SGA, Haliburton has transcended his game this season, becoming one of the best floor generals and one of the hottest commodities in the entire league. Hali is averaging 22.6 points, four rebounds, and 11.8 assists while shooting 48.3 per cent from the field. Running the show for the Pacers, producing NBA 2024 highlights night in and night out no matter who the opposition. Also, the Pacers, led by Haliburton, went on a run in the inaugural In-Season Tournament, where they made it all the way to the finals. I guess it’s safe to say that the league is in good hands.

Joel Embiid: To round up the East starters, at Center, it’s the reigning NBA MVP, Joel Embiid. The Sixers big man has been the most unstoppable force in the league this season, with averages of 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, five assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks. Oh, he also scored a career-high 70 points on the San Antonio Spurs last month, just to give you a glimpse of his dominance this season.

Unfortunately, Embiid sustained an injury to his left knee and is set to go under the knife, which would force him to miss a lengthy amount of time and miss the All-Star Game entirely. The league has yet to announce Embiid’s replacement as the starting center of the East, but whoever that may be will certainly have big shoes to fill.

Reserves:

Bam Adebayo, Miami Heat

Paolo Banchero, Orlando Magic

Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics

Jalen Brunson, New York Knicks

Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers

Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers

Julius Randle, New York Knicks
