The trade deadline is less than one month away and several NBA teams have already started examining and planning for their rosters.
This is the perfect time for those who are looking for a change and it remains to be seen on whether they might actually get it or not.
Most playoff teams aren’t expected to make big changes given the position they’re in right now, but the same can’t be said for the teams who are at the lower half of the standings since they are getting nowhere.
Without further ado, read on below as SBOTOP provides the latest in the trade market by looking into the relevant NBA 2022 updates.
New opportunities await Cam Reddish in New York
The Hawks are the first team to pull the trigger this season as they traded away Cam Reddish to the Knicks. In the said deal, Atlanta got Kevin Knox II and a 2022 first round pick in exchange for Reddish, Solomon Hill, and a 2025 second round pick.
Reddish, who was the 10th pick in the 2019 draft, wasn’t getting enough opportunities in Atlanta due to a logjam at the wing position with Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter, and De’Andre Hunter present. And with contract extension talks looming, the Hawks have made it a priority to trade him before the deadline.
Going to the Knicks offers Reddish a new start. He gives the Knicks another versatile swingman to grow with their core of young talent and he should get enough playing time because of his upside.
His addition also reunites him with former Duke teammate RJ Barrett, which should add excitement for the Knicks fans.
As for the Hawks, the sweetener from this deal was the Hornets’ first round pick that they’ve acquired. The said selection gives Atlanta another asset that they can use in the near future as they’ll look to improve their roster following their surprise ECF appearance last season.
Time is ticking for the Blazers
Damian Lillard is out for a few weeks due to an abdominal surgery while CJ McCollum continues to recuperate from a collapsed lung, so it’s hard to envision them moving up in the Western Conference standings anytime soon.
Earlier this season, the Blazers have had talks with the Sixers as they’ve discussed a possible trade involving Ben Simmons. However, there was no indication that both sides were about to pull the trigger. The Blazers are quickly fading from the playoff picture. And with multiple contracts that will expire this year along with their growing injury list, all signs point to a possible overhaul.
No imminent deals yet for Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons has yet to play a single game this season and his intention to get out of Philly has been well-known, which made him the biggest name in the trade market ever since.
Sixers GM Daryl Morey has yet to find an appealing trade package for their wantaway star, and his hard stance on trying to acquire a superstar in exchange for Simmons doesn’t help his trade value.
The Kings have emerged as a possible trade partner for the Sixers as they’ve had talks for Simmons. According to reports, the two teams recently discussed a trade involving Ben Simmons and De’Aaron Fox.
The deal sounds good on paper since Fox can help Philadelphia right away, but these talks are merely exploratory as of the moment.
Other than the Kings, the Hawks, Blazers, Pacers, and Timberwolves have also expressed their interest for the 25-year-old.
Jerami Grant and Pacers frontcourt duo remain hot in the market
Playoff teams in need of frontcourt help are actively pursuing the likes of Jerami Grant, Myles Turner, and Domantas Sabonis.
Grant is currently sidelined due to a UCL injury in his right thumb. But given his versatility on both ends of the floor along with his improved outside shot, the 27-year-old will certainly have numerous suitors for his services.
With the Pistons’ NBA 2022 odds of falling to the draft lottery increasing by the day, it would be wise for them to be active sellers of their key assets since it’ll help them fast-track their rebuild.
As for the Pacers, they still have a big decision to make on what to do moving forward since they’re just one spot above the Pistons in the Eastern Conference standings.
Several playoff teams have ramped up conversations with them involving Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis as the team is reportedly considering moving toward a full-scale rebuild.
Turner is the more likely to get traded between the two, though, since Indiana have placed an extremely high value on Sabonis compared to him.
