The NBA season remains shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is definitely a massive disappointment to SBOBET NBA fans.
But perhaps even more disappointing were these handful of teams that frustrated their respective fanbases while they were still in action this season.
So as we all await the league to resume play, let’s take a look at the five teams who have been the most disappointing this season.
5. Detroit Pistons
The eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference was up for grabs this season, and the Detroit Pistons were a prime candidate to snatch it once again.
However, it was clear from the start of the year that All-Star forward Blake Griffin just wasn’t right. Griffin dealt with knee issues during the tail-end of last season, and they continued to limit his effectiveness throughout this campaign.
Griffin was rightly shut down at the turn of the year to undergo knee surgery, and the Pistons’ playoff hopes quickly went down with him.
Derrick Rose’s resurgence as a borderline All-Star has helped put a little shine on the season. The late emergence of Christian Wood, who has recently recovered from COVID-19, has also been promising.
But overall, it has been quite a disappointing year for the Pistons, who, instead of challenging for the playoffs, are tied for the second-worst record in the East.
4. Portland Trail Blazers
Expectations for the Blazers were high coming into the season. They improbably made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals the previous year thanks to Damian Lillard’s playoff heroics.
But there were clear concerns heading into the year. They had let go of their two starting forwards in Al-Farouq Aminu and Mo Harkless, which left them short in the frontcourt. Injuries to big man Jusuf Nurkic and later Zach Collins also made that problem worse, with the unreliable Hassan Whiteside left as their lone centre.
Things got so bad for the Blazers that they had to resort to signing the ageing Carmelo Anthony. While Melo has had his moments in Portland, he’s clearly not the once-potent superstar that he was in his prime.
As a result, it has been a down year for the Blazers, who would not make it to the playoffs if the season ended today.
3. Golden State Warriors
Everyone expected the Warriors to take a step back this season. After all, they had lost Kevin Durant in free agency, while Klay Thompson was sure to miss most of the season after suffering a torn ACL in their Finals loss to the Raptors.
But with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, they still had the potential to make some noise in the West. Some were even tipping Curry to have another MVP-calibre season now that he had the chance to create several NBA 2020 highlights with Durant and Thompson gone.
However, that all went down the drain after Curry broke his hand early in the season. With their superstar out, the Warriors made the wise decision to simply tank the rest of the season, which is why they have the worst record in the league. It’s a massively disappointing way to cap off the end of the Warriors dynasty.
2.Brooklyn Nets
Speaking of Durant, he wound up in Brooklyn to team up with Kyrie Irving on the Nets. But after his torn Achilles in the Finals, it would have to be the Kyrie show for this season.
However, the Nets didn’t even get that as Irving suffered a rash of injuries which kept him out for most of the season. And when he was playing, he was making the sorts of divisive comments that made him a widely unpopular figure inside the Celtics’ locker room last season.
Nets coach Kenny Atkinson did well to keep the team in playoff position considering they were without their two big superstars. But he suddenly parted ways with the team prior to the season postponement, with rumours suggesting that the Nets’ new stars weren’t on board with him as a coach.
All in all, this season wasn’t nearly what Nets fans had in mind after their blockbuster summer.
1. Philadelphia Sixers
With the exception of the two Los Angeles teams, no team in the NBA had more hype coming into the season than the Sixers.
Philly made some huge splashes in the offseason by acquiring both Josh Richardson and Al Horford and re-signing Tobias Harris. Together with All-Stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, the NBA 2020 betting odds had them pegged to be the Milwaukee Bucks’ main competition in the East.
But those moves haven’t turned out as well as they’d hoped. Horford has been a major disappointment as he’s struggled to fit himself into the team’s system. Meanwhile, both Embiid and Simmons have missed time due to injury, which is why the Sixers find themselves all the way down in sixth in the East standings.
With Simmons dealing with a serious back injury, it seems unlikely that he will return even if the season does start back up again. It’s just one of the many factors that have made the Sixers the most disappointing team in the NBA this season.
