The frenzy that is the NBA trade deadline has created a lot of new teams that easily rattled the sports betting community. Many definitely had their eyes on the live betting fiesta that the Houston-New Orleans game brought, but the other games also had their share of thrills and spills.
However, it’s hard to cement betting odds as these new teams still need time to gel.
Orlando Magic 103-112 Portland Trail Blazers
Serge Ibaka’s departure definitely hurt the Magic, but they were eager to get assets out of the former Oklahoma City player before his contract expired. While Terrence Ross makes the Magic starting unit feature two athletic wings, their efforts weren’t enough to overcome Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum’s scoring.
Detroit Pistons 114-108 Charlotte Hornets
The Trail Blazers are interested in acquiring Andre Drummond to bolster their frontcourt against the juggernauts in their conference. Drummond will be an invaluable presence for Portland should he make the switch, as his 12-point 13-rebound night against the Charlotte Hornets is a regular thing for him.
New Orleans Pelicans 99-129 Houston Rockets
Many had their eyes on this game as this is DeMarcus Cousins’ first game in a uniform that isn’t Sacramento’s. Both he and Anthony Davis had great nights, combining for 56 points and 23 rebounds.
However, it was Houston’s trade that stood out more: Lou Williams was a perfect fit for the Rockets system by leading the scoring from the bench. James Harden didn’t even need to score much!
Cleveland Cavaliers 119-104 New York Knicks
We can probably say with confidence that Carmelo Anthony will be stuck in an awkward situation with the New York Knicks for quite some time. The team’s lack of scoring and defence were highlighted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs were a well-tuned machine, converting more shots and making more passes than their opponents.
Sacramento Kings 116-100 Denver Nuggets
It was easy to assume that the Sacramento Kings were going to struggle without their All-Star in DeMarcus Cousins. However, the shocking performance of the Kings in their first Boogie-less night makes Vlade Divac and Vivek Ranadive look like geniuses.
Willie Cauley-Stein had a grand time operating without Cousins blocking his way, scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Tyreke Evans and Buddy Hield had decent performances of their own.
Los Angeles Clippers 113-123 Golden State Warriors
The season series between the two teams ended with Golden State sweeping the Clippers, but this game had the closest final scores out of the four games the two played. While we should applaud Austin Rivers for playing well, he is not Chris Paul. Golden State are just too talented for the Paul-less Clippers and ran over them by the third quarter.
