England 1-1 Italy
It’s tough being a football betting fan for England. As much as you want the Three Lions to win, their previous performances in international competitions made all of us haughty about their live betting prospects.
It might be a bit too early to place your hopes up for England once more, but their performance against Italy should convince some to bet online for them in the coming World Cup. Gareth Southgate managed to fight Italy to a draw with a team that doesn’t have his strongest stars.
Their attacks were getting through the Italian defence, leading to some fantastic shot attempts. Gianluigi Donnarumma had to do a lot of work to stop Raheem Sterling, Jesse Lingard, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Jamie Vardy from scoring multiple times.
They finally got through in the 26th minute. Lingard made the most out of took a quick free kick in front of the box for Vardy to immediately smash it into the net. The rest of the game was spent with the two teams trying to get their way.
The biggest problem for Southgate is their defending. John Stones was especially disappointing as he was involved in several close calls with Ciro Immobile. Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne managed to do whatever they want on the attack, catching the back line’s offside trap multiple times.
Their shoddy defence also cost them the game. Ashley Young conceded a penalty after a poor challenge in Federico Chiesa. Insigne easily slotted the ball past Jack Butland to end the game in a draw.
There will be a lot of adjustments for Southgate to do before he can field a team strong enough to win this time around. But this game should give a bit of a confidence boost to the fans: the Three Lions can still play with the best of them.
