Bayern Munich vs Hertha BSC
The stage is set for the defending champions to make their big return to the top of the league.
Borussia Dortmund are struggling to find a win over their last three games. While they still stumble every now and then, they showcase that they are still the biggest team in all of German football. They will be playing in front of their home crowd where every single soul at the Allianz Arena will be shouting and chanting for Germany’s big boys to take the spot that has always belonged to them.
The Bundesliga is once again within the grasp of Bayern Munich.
However, Hertha Berlin (and desperate BVB fans) would be quick to point out to September 2018, when newly minted manager Niko Kovac was struggling to get the Bavarians on board with his tactics as they lost 2-0 away from home.
We are now presented with two sides of the same coin. One would either see Bayern triumphantly march to victory while the other seeks to frustrate Munich supporters even further. While there are plenty of SBOBET tips to be made, let’s discuss the facts before we flip the coin to the sky.
Talking Points
This is Bayern’s game to lose
After a long struggle, Bayern Munich finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just in case you’re wondering, the tunnel’s name is known as any-position-besides-first-in-the-Bundesliga-league-table.
It’s undeniable that Bayern had a tough time adjusting to Niko Kovac’s approach to the game, and the early patches of poor form they had in late September and November are proof that fully integrating the way the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss played his football.
However, they are now back in their winning ways, steamrolling the Bundesliga opposition in typical Bayern fashion. Barring their shocking loss to Bayer Leverkusen, they won every single league game that they have played since December. Even their most recent draw versus Liverpool is a testament to the level of talent this team has.
Robert Lewandowski continues to bring the goals, leading the team with his 13 strikes. Thiago Alcantara, Thomas Muller, and Mats Hummels are also doing fantastic work in helping them catch up to the league leaders.
Moreover, the club’s future is secure should the club veterans decide to pack up and move elsewhere with their footballing careers. Not only do they have great young talent in Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman and Leon Goretzka, they are also battling with Dortmund to acquire all of the best young talents they could find.
With Bayern’s future as secure as it is, it’s no wonder they can come into this game full of confidence.
Can lightning strike twice?
If I were Kovac, however, I would be warier of what Hertha Berlin can bring to the table.
A quick look at the table would tell you that it would be foolish to make Bayern Munich vs Hertha Berlin predictions that favour the guests. They are struggling to find consistency in their performances, and their last five games have alternated between victories, draws, and defeats.
However, it is important to point out that Berlin have only lost two games less than the league leaders. The team based in the German capital can definitely hang with the best of them, keeping up with teams like Dortmund, Wolfsburg, and Hoffenheim. Unfortunately, their latest draw happened to break records. Werder Bremen’s Claudio Pizarro just became the oldest player in Bundesliga history to score a goal by denying them the three points.
Berlin have a player they can count upon for goals and hard work, though. Ondrej Duda is leading the team in goals scored and will be the key man for Berlin to succeed again versus their Bavarian opponents. Valentino Lazaro and Marko Grujic must also put in the work to help their number 10.
If Bayern don’t keep their wits about themselves and enter this game with overconfidence, Pal Dardai’s lads might pull the rug underneath their feet.
History
The two sides have been playing each other for a long time, as they have played at sixty games over a 51-year period. Bayern understandably have the edge when it comes to head-to-head record as they won 38 of those games. Berlin only won nine of those while salvaging 19 draws.
While the Blue-Whites don’t win regularly against their opponents, their most recent games have been encouraging. Three of their last five encounters have ended in draws, and many Bundesliga 2019 news stories covering this game will always refer to the shocking moment Berlin kept Bayern scoreless at home. Even their DFB Pokal match went the distance, and Bayern needed a Coman goal in extra time to get past Berlin.
Betting Tip
Bayern Munich vs Hertha BSC | Under 3.25 Goals @ 2.20 | |
February 23, 22:30 (GMT+8) |
It’s impossible to even imagine Bayern Munich dropping points against Hertha Berlin at this point of the season. They are firing at all cylinders and will be eager to impress. I’m pretty sure that they will win against Berlin, but they shouldn’t be able to build beyond a three-goal gap.
It’s also possible that Berlin could pull off another miracle and win 2-1 away from home. Given their battling performances recently, anything is possible with Dardai’s team. The underdog lover in me is personally rooting for Berlin to pull off the upset.
Like I said, the match could head in either direction, just as much as the coin could land heads or tails. It’s up to you to decide which side would you put your money on.
