Juventus 1-0 Inter Milan
A first-half rocket from Juan Cuadrado at the Juventus Stadium was enough to see off in-form Inter and keep the league leaders six points clear of the pack.
The visitors headed to Turin full of confidence having won their last seven league football games, which had lifted Stefano Pioli’s side into fourth place. But Cuadrado’s screamer means betting websites now have the Bianconeri heavily odds-on to win another title, with only Roma and Napoli in with a serious chance of chasing down the leaders.
And when you realise this was Juventus’ 28th consecutive Serie A home win, it’s difficult to make an argument. But hey, there’s still a long way to go.
Inter made it difficult for the home team, and the fans had to wait until the brink of halftime before they could celebrate as Cuadrado volleyed his brilliant effort into the Inter net.
Ivan Perisic worked the Juve defence hard and could have won a point for Inter but, as his frustration got the better of him, he saw red for arguing with the ref.
The chasers certainly haven’t given up, and Napoli briefly closed the gap to three points after battering Bologna 7-1 on Sunday with hat tricks from the excellent Marek Hamsik and Dries Mertens, incredibly the latter’s third of the season.
And Lazio moved into fourth place as Marco Parolo helped himself to four goals in Pescara with the visitors handing out a 6-2 thrashing.
It’s over to Roma now to keep up the pace as Luciano Spalletti’s side faces Fiorentina on Wednesday. Odds of 1.63 suggest a home win.
But then Juventus play their game in hand against Crotone in midweek, which could stretch the lead to nine points.
