Bundesliga: Bayern Trip to Nurnberg No Walk in the Park

Nurnberg vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have been taking care of business late in the season. With their one-point lead over Borussia Dortmund still intact, they’re now just four wins away from a seventh straight Bundesliga title.

Dortmund have the Revierderby against Schalke up next this weekend, which could be a potentially tricky matchup. Meanwhile, Bayern could also have a similarly dangerous assignment on their hands.

Based on the Bundesliga 2019 betting odds, it looks as if the leaders should be able to pick up another important victory in their upcoming match against relegation-bound Nurnberg with relative ease.

But despite their inability to win, Nurnberg have made life difficult against some of the top teams in the league when they’ve visited the Max-Morlock-Stadion this season, and will look to do the same against Bayern.

Talking Points

Nurnberg no pushovers at home

It’s been a very rough return to the top flight for Nurnberg. In their first season back in the Bundesliga since 2014, the nine-time German champions are second from bottom in the table and are headed right back down to the second division.

After winning two of their first six league matches, Der Ruhmreiche have won just one of their last 24, with 16 defeats. Their lone win during that span came late last month with a 3-0 win over Augsburg.

Their subsequent Bundesliga 2019 results were back-to-back draws, but those were against the two teams directly above them in the table — Stuttgart and Schalke. And last weekend, they were comfortably beaten 2-0 at Bayer Leverkusen.

Obviously, Nurnberg’s recent form doesn’t inspire much confidence. However, they have at least put up some admirable performances in front of their home fans as they’ve given some of the other top teams a few unexpected headaches.

They’ve held both Borussia Dortmund and fourth-place Eintracht Frankfurt to draws at home and only lost 1-0 against third-place RB Leipzig.

It will no doubt be a tougher task to disrupt a Bayern side with the title in their sights. But at the very least, Nurnberg will have some confidence heading into the match that they are capable of springing a surprise.

Unbeatable Bayern

Bayern Munich remain on course for another domestic double thanks to back-to-back wins over Werder Bremen. Bayern have now won five games in a row in all competitions and nine of their last 10 Bundesliga matches to maintain their one-point lead over Borussia Dortmund with just four matches remaining.

Bayern’s match against Werder Bremen was part of a tricky end-of-season run-in. And so it proved that neither win came easy against a Bremen side that had previously not lost since the start of 2019.

Bayern needed a 75th-minute goal from defender Niklas Sule to beat Bremen side that had gone down to 10 men at home in their Bundesliga matchup. And they needed a somewhat controversial penalty decision to win their DFB Pokal semi-final, 3-2.

Of course, Nurnberg will be a significant step down from Bremen in terms of quality, which should benefit Bayern.

The reigning champions have not been quite as dominant away from home as they have been at the Allianz Arena; they dropped points in a draw away to Freiburg last month and also lost 3-1 against Bayer Leverkusen.

However, they have also picked up dominant away wins over Fortuna Dusseldorf (1-4) and Borussia Monchengladbach (1-5).

It might be difficult to run up that type of scoreline away at Nurnberg, but Bayern should still possess enough quality to escape with the three points that they need.

History

Due to Nurnberg’s recent Bundesliga absence, their meeting against Bayern in December was their first since 2014. Bayern strolled to a dominant 3-0 victory at the Allianz.

That win extended Bayern’s dominance over Nurnberg. The Bavarians have gone 13 games undefeated against Nurnberg, with nine wins and four draws.

However, Nurnberg have a history of giving Bayern some problems. All four of their draws against the German giants have been at home.

Betting Tip

??
Nurnberg vs Bayern Munich Nurnberg Asian Handicap +2.50 @ 1.92
April 29, 00:00 (GMT+8)

SBOBET odds currently have Nurnberg priced at a whopping 18.00 to win in the 1X2 market. However, it seems unlikely that Bayern will find it that easy.

For one, Bayern are coming off two fairly challenging matches against Werder Bremen, so they could potentially be a bit leggy in this match after their DFB Pokal semi-final in midweek. And as mentioned earlier, Nurnberg do have a habit of making life tougher than expected against the top sides.

With those factors in mind, Nurnberg look like a great shout in the Asian handicap market to keep it relatively close against Bayern.
