Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
It was a satisfying night out for many Eintracht Frankfurt fans.
This Bundesliga match was supposed to be a tough one for them as Borussia Dortmund have been firing on all cylinders. Even I was sold that they would win against their hosts by quite a considerable margin.
However, Frankfurt showed resilience and fearlessness as they managed to snatch a point against Dortmund in front of their home fans. I’m pretty sure that everyone in the city is celebrating such an important result.
Highlights of the game
Frankfurt are more than aware of how good Dortmund can be coming into this match. They arrive at the Commerzbank-Arena with supreme confidence, having just beaten a hapless Hannover side black and blue in their last league game.
Adi Hutter fielded his team in a 3-5-2 formation that would hopefully help the side control whatever attacks come their way and quickly set up for a quick counter. They almost had a third-minute goal to rock the pre-match Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund odds when Roman Burki denied Sebastien Haller’s mid-range effort.
The rest of the match’s opening minutes saw the game seesaw between the two Bundesliga regulars. Frankfurt kept on pressing as they managed to challenge the BVB backline. However, Dortmund just have too many quality players in their roster to be denied for long.
Paco Alcacer almost added to his 12-goal tally when he managed to launch a first-time shot in a crowded Frankfurt danger box. Fortunately for the thousands of Frankfurt fans that came to watch, Kevin Trapp managed to keep the hosts away with a brilliant stop.
However, that shot saw a swing in momentum as Dortmund started hounding the Frankfurt defence with relentless attacks. Jadon Sancho, Raphael Guerreiro and Lukasz Piszczek threatened to score in a span of eight minutes, but the defence managed to keep them away.
Unfortunately for the hosts, the Bundesliga leaders managed to crack past Frankfurt’s five-man defensive scheme. Guerreiro made a brilliant 40-yard dribble to the front of the goal after getting the ball from the midfield. He held the ball long enough to convince Trapp to leave his line before passing it to an open Marco Reus. Dortmund’s captain coolly tapped the ball towards the goal to complete the 22nd-minute opener.
Reus showed off why he is one of Germany’s best footballers as he continued to threaten the goal the next four minutes. He had a sure-fire chance to double Dortmund’s lead but was unable to keep the ball on target as it drifted wide of the left post. He had another chance on 26 minutes as he threatened inside the Frankfurt box. However, his powerful shot was denied by the crossbar.
The game settled down a bit after Reus’ showcase. Frankfurt eventually got back into the game as they began to build their attacks. Ante Rebic had two chances in the 33rd and 34th minute to equalise, but both of his shots didn’t break into the goal.
He will not rue his efforts, though, as Frankfurt manage to find a way back into the game. They had a 35th-minute corner on Dortmund’s half. The BVB managed to push it away and were looking to make a quick counter, but Frankfurt managed to get it back. Danny da Costa launched a lob into the box, and Luka Jovic managed to get his foot to the ball so that it gets past Burki.
The shot was an excellent display of body control and anticipation to beat the offside trap on Jovic’s part. The 21-year-old Serbian already has 14 goals in 18 appearances, and you can understand why Real Madrid are interested in acquiring his services.
The half ended in a tie, and it turned out that this is all of the biggest action that will happen for the rest of the match. Both Rebic and Alcacer had their chances to put their teams ahead with some brilliant shot attempts. However, neither striker managed to get a goal, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Key statistics
Both of these clubs have scored in their last six head-to-head matches, and this game is no exception. A lot of SBOBET Bundesliga fans that are into the Total Goals market can always count on this game for sure winnings.
Dortmund dominated possession with 60%, but Frankfurt were more efficient with their time as they managed to make 15 shot attempts and have seven of those on target. The BVB definitely tested the Eagles as they were forced to concede 14 fouls that game.
What’s next?
Both teams will be in for an interesting time as their season continues.
Frankfurt hope that they can finally turn their three-game undefeated streak into something positive when they play RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena. What follows their league game is a Europa League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Dortmund’s next three games are going to be just as challenging. They will be playing Werder Bremen in the DFB Pokal, followed by another tough league fixture against Julian Nagelsmann and Hoffenheim. After that is the start of the Champions League knockout stages as they face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
