Bayer Leverkusen vs Borussia Monchengladbach
The Bundesliga has a lot to offer for all football fans out there this weekend.
One day after the much-awaited Der Klassiker, this match on Sunday night offers an entertaining proposition to motivate you for the upcoming week ahead.
Bayer Leverkusen will host Borussia Monchengladbach over at the BayArena in what should be a thrilling matchup, as both of these teams will try to boost their chances in the ongoing Bundesliga title race.
Only one point separates between them as Die Werkself and the Foals have 12 and 11 points respectively – good for the fifth and sixth spots at the table.
The two are also unbeaten in their last five games, which includes their respective victories in their Europa League and Champions League fixtures during the last time out.
Peter Bosz’s men won with a 4-2 scoreline over Hapoel Be’er Sheva and then Marco Rose’s side unloaded a six-goal avalanche against Shakhtar Donetsk.
With these two clubs running hot in form, something has to give sooner or later.
Today, SBOTOP takes a look at both of these proud clubs and we got you covered with the latest Bundesliga 2020 updates.
Talking Points
Bayer Leverkusen are a tough nut to crack
Die Werkself remain the only undefeated team in the Bundesliga, and this comes as a surprise given what has happened over the summer.
Peter Bosz and co. were left hanging to dry when they lost Kai Havertz and Kevin Volland to Chelsea and AS Monaco respectively, but Leverkusen were unfazed.
Patrik Schick was brought in from AS Roma to replace some of the goals that the club has lost, but his injury paved the way for Lucas Alario to show everyone what he’s got.
The Argentine forward has plundered six goals already in as many games for his club, and he has been getting significant support from his teammates too.
Leon Bailey’s menacing pace has helped him earn two goals and four assists, while teenage midfielder Florian Wirtz has two goals and three assists under his belt.
Peter Bosz certainly has enough firepower to contend in the German top-flight. Their recent victory over Hapoel Be’er Sheva should serve as an early warning for the Foals this Sunday.
Borussia Monchengladbach brimming in confidence
Like Die Werkself, the Foals have been in good form as they’ve won three of their last four league fixtures.
They were able to unseat RB Leipzig at the top with a 1-0 victory via a Hannes Wolf strike to the far post that gave Gladbach the lead for good in the 60th minute.
Gladbach went on to add more success by recording their largest Champions League victory ever against Shakhtar Donetsk with a 6-0 clean sheet.
Alassane Plea was in superb form in that game since he scored a hat-trick, while Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl also joined in the scoring barrage to cap off their amazing outing.
Because of this, Borussia Monchengladbach are in firm control of their destiny in Group B of the Champions League.
But now they must turn their attention back to domestic matters as they try to avoid losing ground on their visitors.
Midfield ace Denis Zakaria remains a doubt for this match because of the knee injury he sustained last March.
He has already missed 20 fixtures and Peter Bosz is hopeful that the Swiss international will be back at 100-per cent soon.
History
Prior to Sunday, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach have locked horns in 30 matches.
Die Werkself hold the edge with 15 victories, while the Foals have 10 of their own along with five draws.
The last time that they faced each other was six months ago to where Peter Bosz’s side won 3-1, with Sven Bender scoring once and current Chelsea winger Kai Havertz recording a brace.
Marcus Thuram scored the lone goal for Gladbach and he will definitely need to step up big against Die Werkself on Sunday.
This fixture has never gone goalless since April 2004, when the Foals were still playing at the old Bokelbergstadion.

Anything but a cracker for this one should be considered as a disappointment on a fan perspective as it promises to be a high-octane fixture.
Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach will fight tooth and nail for the win and the latest Bundesliga 2020 odds point to a tight game.
The hosts are priced to win at 2.31, while Gladbach are at 2.93 and chances for a draw are at 3.40 in the 1×2 market.
With these two playing so well, personally, it will be hard to pick on who will win over the other.
Hence, I would recommend for you rooting this to be a goalfest.
