Bundesliga: The Wheeling and Dealing Continues in Germany

The transfer market has been gaining steam in the past few weeks. And here in the Bundesliga, you can expect almost every club to join in the festivities.

The Bundesliga 2020 odds favour the Bavarians to win their ninth consecutive championship next term and the best of the rest have big plans of stopping them from doing so.

So their work will be cut out for them and it starts right now as strengthening every position will be of utmost importance to keep up. But who’s had the upper hand in these past few weeks?

As we continue to monitor several developments, SBOTOP has you covered with our latest set of Bundesliga 2020 updates.

Bayer Leverkusen suffer major loss with Havertz leaving

Bayer Leverkusen have a tough pill to swallow as the Blues over at Stamford Bridge added another weapon to their growing war chest.

Kai Havertz and Chelsea agreed to a massive deal that will last for around five years, per Andrew Dillon of The Sun. The transfer fee is estimated at a value of £90-M with an enormous weekly wage of £310,000.

The young midfielder will join a fresh group of rising talents coached by club icon and current boss Frank Lampard.

Havertz will form a unique attacking partnership with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Christian Pulisic, and the club is reportedly in the process of signing Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell too.

The Chelsea brass are hopeful that their recent investments will bear fruit this time around. During the last offseason, the Blues paid £76-M to bring over Kepa Arrizabalaga as their goalkeeper, but he hasn’t performed up to par.

Although the Blues finished with a Champions League spot and an FA Cup Finals appearance last campaign, Lampard would be more than eager to bring back the glory days of the club.

With a great mix of youth and veterans, expect Chelsea to be one of the stronger teams coming into the 2020/21 season starting in late September.

Jude Bellingham adds quality to Dortmund

BVB have one of the most frightening attacks in German top-flight and that is about to get even better with their latest addition.

Jude Bellingham will join in their youth revolution, who already has the likes of Erling Braut Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

Many scouts have gushed over the 17-year-old midfielder as he has broken multiple records playing for Birmingham’s youth club last season.

Liverpool are unwilling to meet Bayern Munich’s £27-M demand for Bundesliga ace Thiago Alcantara
Reports have it that Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara is set to leave the Bundesliga champions for Liverpool

In fact, he was so good that Birmingham decided to retire his jersey number even before moving on to sign with the Yellows.

Ironically, Manchester United were a suitor of his before confirming his move to the Signal Iduna Park.

But like Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham has committed to play in Germany and it will be interesting to see on how he would fare in his first Bundesliga campaign.

RB Leipzig looking to bolster depth

The Red Bulls have performed well in the 2019/20 Bundesliga term. For a time, they were on top of the league table, only to be overtaken by Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in the end.

RB Leipzig have defied the odds by going to as far as the Champions League semifinals. Despite Timo Werner departing the club, they put up a valiant stand against Paris Saint-Germain before bowing out.

However, Julian Nagelsmann and his crew know that there’s still work needed to be done in the season ahead, which is why they were busy in bringing in some new pieces.

They’ve added Ademola Lookman and Hwang Hee-chan to try and fill the void left by Timo Werner.

Leipzig are also looking to keep Angelino and Patrik Schick on permanent deals after loaning them from Manchester City and AS Roma respectively, but rival clubs have expressed their interest in getting them as well.

Thiago Alcantara set to join Premier League champions?

Thiago Alcantara had a hand in Kingsley Coman’s marginal goal against Paris Saint-Germain in their recent Champions League win, and that game may be his last for the Bavarians.

The Spanish midfielder reportedly refused a new deal with Bayern Munich. And according to Mundo Deportivo, Thiago will leave the German champions and “set course” to Liverpool.

But before it comes into fruition, Bayern Munich and Liverpool would need to iron out the deal properly.

Apparently, the Reds are unwilling to pay for the Bavarians’ asking price for the midfielder.

Bayern Munich reportedly want £27-M in exchange. However, it seems that Liverpool are in no rush in acquiring the 29-year-old.

Liverpool may opt to wait until January 2021, when they can reach for a pre-contract agreement to facilitate the free transfer.
