RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich
We’re in for a good one as two of Germany’s top football clubs clash in a classic Bundesliga bout!
The league leaders Bayern Munich will visit the scorching RB Leipzig in the Red Bull Arena on Sunday.
The home squad can potentially top the league table with a win against the defending champions, but as the Bundesliga 2023 odds suggest, the home team would need to display a herculean effort to hand Bayern their first defeat in the season.
Meanwhile, Harry Kane and the rest of Bayern will come into this match with a chip on their shoulders as they try to avenge their DFL Supercup defeat against Leipzig, and assert dominance in the German football landscape.
Talking Points
Bayern’s quick return of investment
Bayern signed Tottenham legend and England captain Harry Kane last August. The £100 million move bolstered Bayern’s already monumental legacy in the Bundesliga. Bayern have won a whopping 11 straight Bundesliga championships, and with Harry Kane augmenting their roster, extending their reign for another year doesn’t seem lofty at all.
The Golden Boy has seemed to be able to quickly adjust and contribute to his new club. Despite Leipzig spoiling his debut in the DFL Finals, which, by the way, could’ve been Kane’s first ever trophy besides the Audi Cup, he has so far been successful in filling Lewandowski’s shoes.
In five appearances for the Bavarians, Harry Kane carried his weight and more by scoring five goals and assisting on three, which included a “hat-trick” in their 7-0 win against Bochum on Matchday 5. But his influence goes beyond what he produces on the field.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel and Bayern players have nothing but praise when asked about the Englishman. “We have exactly the player we need, with the personality of the way he plays,” Tuchel said recently. “He is absolutely impressive and makes every teammate better,” he added.
Harry Kane will attempt to literally and figuratively keep the ball rolling for him and his team as they visit a rising RB Leipzig squad on Saturday.
Leipzig off to a start in DFB title defence
Marco Rose and the rest of RB Leipzig are off to a good start in making history as they strive to be the first team to win the DFB-Pokal in three consecutive campaigns.
They started their title defence in BRITA-Arena against Wehen Wiesbaden. It was an action-packed bout, but it was Leipzig’s match for the taking right from the start.
Emil Forsberg opened up the match with an early close-range strike in the 7th minute of the fixture. The ball found its way to the Swedish attacking midfielder after Wiesbaden’s keeper successfully defended a menacing attack from Yussuf Paulsen.
Sesko then blew the game wide open for his team after scoring Leipzig’s second and third goals of the match. Wiesbaden kept it competitive, though, as they scored two goals themselves. But the visiting Red Bulls were just too much, and it was evident that they were playing Leipzig’s game all throughout the match.
Marco Rose’s team has been collecting shiny silverware lately, as they are now the defending title holders of both the DFB-Pokal and the DFL Supercup. Now, they set their eyes on the Meisterschale.
Don’t look now, but they have won four straight Bundesliga matches and remain unbeaten across all competitions this month. This team is on a meteoric rise, and they have earned the respect and approval of rivals and fans alike. RB Leipzig is officially a contender in the Bundesliga.
History
The last time these two met in the Bundesliga, Leipzig emerged victorious, impressively, and surgically defeated Bayern in Munich with a 3-1 score line.
The most recent outing between these two sides outside of the Bundesliga was in the DFL final, where Leipzig again got the upper hand thanks to Dani Olmo’s hat-trick. The Red Bulls lifted the DFL Supercup trophy and spoilt Harry Kane’s Bayern debut all in one night.
Historically, Leipzig and Bayern faced each other 18 times across all tournaments, with Bayern winning the majority of the matches with nine wins. Leipzig, on the other hand, won just three. They ended with a draw six times.
Betting Tip
Bayern have yet to lose a match this season in the Bundesliga, and even though Leipzig has been on a tear, I can still see Bayern coming out of this match as the victors. SBOTOP priced this match in favour of Bayern. Leipzig are the underdogs to win at 3.10, while Bayern are the heavy favourites at 1.94.
I personally expected this match to be priced a little closer, but Bayern to win at 1.94 still holds enough value to be a line worth taking.
Another line I find some value in is Over 3.50 at 2.06. Both of these clubs are in tremendous form, and together, they’ve scored a total of 32 goals in just five matches! With the pace they’re on and the form their offences are in, I guess the real question is: Which club will produce the most Bundesliga 2023 highlights?
