Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayer Leverkusen
A big test awaits Eintracht Frankfurt this Sunday as they’ll host Bayer Leverkusen at the Deutsche Bank Park.
The Eagles have yet to hit their stride so far in their 2021/22 campaign, and a positive result here would do wonders for them given their current standing at the Bundesliga table.
Oliver Glasner’s group are 12th and they’re in a logjam at the bottom half since they’re level with points alongside RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach with 18 apiece. Frankfurt are fresh from a loss against Hoffenheim and a draw against Fenerbahce for this week.
In stark contrast, Bayer Leverkusen are flying high at third with 27 points. They’re undefeated in their last four league games, although they are coming off of a defeat in the Europa League yesterday.
Gerardo Seoane’s side would need to pick up maximum points if they are to mount a significant title challenge alongside Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, with the likes SC Freiburg, Hoffenheim, and Union Berlin breathing down on their necks.
Talking Points
Filip Kostic rediscovering his form for Eintracht Frankfurt
It’s not a surprise that Filip Kostic has become the man given his fine play for the Eagles. The winger is Frankfurt’s most creative playmaker so far this season with three goals and eight assists, and he has scored or assisted in four of his last five Bundesliga outings.
The 29-year-old isn’t exactly the quickest guy for his position, but his technical skill and versatility makes him one of the more underrated players in Europe today.
He became a regular fixture in the Bundesliga 2021 news as he’s been linked to various Serie A clubs. AS Roma were one of the teams who were keen on having him before, but his biggest suitor as of today are Inter Milan.
Kostic is seemingly the ideal replacement for Ivan Perisic next summer as the Croatian is expected to leave San Siro.
It would be a shame if Frankfurt will let go of Kostic – although it is unlikely to happen for now – since they have promising attackers to link him up with. Leading scorer Rafael Santos Borre looks to have filled in well after Andre Silva’s move to RB Leipzig while Goncalo Paciencia also has four goals.
Bayer Leverkusen catching fire
Since their 2-0 defeat vs. VfL Wolfsburg last October, Bayer Leverkusen have been firing on all cylinders as they were unbeaten in six games in all competitions prior to their narrow defeat against Ferencvaros yesterday.
Die Werkself have rediscovered their shooting touch, particularly in their two previous league games as they ran riot against RB Leipzig and Greuther Furth with an aggregate tally of 10-2.
Patrik Schick has been the main reason for Leverkusen’s rise to the top three. He now has 12 goals and one assist under his name – with four of those coming within a span of 27 minutes during their demolition of Greuther Furth.
He is being backstopped by the likes of Florian Wirtz and Moussa Diaby as they’ve accounted for 16 goals and 18 assists, so Frankfurt defenders will have their work cut out for them this weekend.
History
The home team has always won in this particular matchup for the last three Bundesliga seasons. But that trend might end this weekend since Bayer Leverkusen have yet to lose away from home so far in this campaign.
This matchup has never ended in a goalless draw in the 72 Bundesliga meetings to date, which is the longest such run in the league.
Die Werkself cannot afford to be complacent against Die Adler since the latter has yet to lose in any of their last eight Bundesliga fixtures against a top three squad (W5, D3).
Frankfurt and Leverkusen’s most recent meeting took place in April where the latter earned a 3-1 victory as Leon Bailey, Lucas Alario, and Kerem Demirbay led the way for Die Werkself while Andre Silva scored the consolation goal.
Betting Tip
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayer Leverkusen | Bayer Leverkusen Asian Handicap -0.25 @ 1.90 | |
December 13, 00:30 (GMT+8) |
The SBOTOP Bundesliga 2021 odds have Bayer Leverkusen tipped as the winners for this contest, albeit via a slender margin. Die Werkself are priced at 2.19 to win, while Die Adler are at 3.05 and chances for a draw is at 3.55 in the 1×2 market.
Eintracht Frankfurt can certainly give Bayer Leverkusen headaches especially with their key players slowly getting their rhythm.
However, Bayer Leverkusen’s road record and recent form are hard to ignore, so we’re confident that they’ll bring home the full three points.
