Coppa Italia Final
Lazio vs Juventus
Juventus make their latest charge on the record books in the Coppa final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Thursday, and it’s the job of Lazio to stand in the way.
The Bianconeri are firm favourites to make it a record three domestic doubles in a row but football betting fans won’t be lulled into thinking the final is a foregone conclusion. At betting odds of 1.45 to win the cup, and 2.07 to win in 90 minutes, Juventus should, in theory, extend their winning run against the Romans. The last six football games between these two giants of Serie A have all gone the same way; wins for Juventus with six clean sheets.
But Lazio, at 2.88 to lift the trophy and 3.45 to do it in 90 minutes, pack a punch in the form of 22-goal Ciro Immobile and his 15-goal strike partner Keita. The Senegalese striker was on target at the weekend when Simone Inzaghi’s team lost to Fiorentina, and will be pumped up by his dream to breach the imposing Juve defence.
Roma did just that, and three times in this very stadium, beating Juventus 3-1 in the league yesterday and that should give Lazio some heart. Max Allegri defended his decision to rest six players in anticipation of the Coppa final: “I didn’t think we would certainly win the Scuddetto tonight. We have to prepare Wednesday’s final.”
Defensive rock Leonardo Bonucci added: “We hope this will serve as a lesson as we face a Lazio team in form in the final.”
Rested Paulo Dybala is likely to partner Gonzalo Higuain up front for Juventus and could well add to his four Coppa goals but if the Bianconeri are to make history then, as Bonucci will tell his team-mates again, this Lazio side have seen off Inter and Roma to get to the final.
