Fiorentina vs Atalanta
The Coppa Italia has reached the semifinal stage, with Juventus, Lazio, Fiorentina, and Atalanta featured on the marquee. The Old Lady and the Eagles will start things off at Allianz Stadium, where Juventus boast of being the heavy favourites to gain an aggregate advantage.
Most would consider Fiorentina and Atalanta’s bout to be the more competitive matchup in the semifinals, as neither outfit has a considerable advantage in terms of their Coppa Italia 2024 betting odds prices.
La viola had success in their thriller of a quarterfinal tie against Bologna in front of their home fans, and they’ll surely hope to replicate those results when they host Atalanta at Stadio Artemio Franchi for the first leg of their semifinal campaign.
Talking Points
Koopmeiners leads Atalanta to the semifinals
Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners singlehandedly carried his outfit past one of the Coppa Italia favourites, Milan, in the quarterfinal with a stellar brace.
Milan’s No. 10, Rafael Leão, was up to his usual antics and scored the opening goal in minute 45 during their recent bout, but Koopmeiners was keen on being levelled before going into halftime and scored a stunner two minutes after Leão’s opening goal.
He then proceeded to pick up where he left off and scored another goal from the penalty mark in minute 59. The 26-year-old’s brilliance was more than enough to fend off Milan and advance to the semis to continue their journey in hopes of garnering Coppa Italia glory this season.
Atalanta should enjoy their No. 7’s production while it lasts, as the Dutch midfielder is reportedly poised to leave La Dea by the end of the 2023–24 campaign. “I told Atalanta that next summer I want to leave,” Koopmeiners exclaimed.
“My girlfriend and I love life in Italy, but for some clubs in England, I’d be willing to tolerate the rain! I hope that options arise that I can reflect on. And I also hope that Atalanta receives a good sum, because I had a wonderful time in Bergamo.”
The 26-year-old is still locked with Atalanta for three more years, but his public declaration of his early departure from Gewiss Stadium makes his move somewhat inevitable.
Fiorentina are no underdogs whatsoever
Fiorentina have faced worthy adversaries to secure their spot in the semifinals, with Bologna posing as their worthiest adversary so far. Despite coming into that match as the underdogs, Vincenzo Italiano’s outfit played with their chests out and with a bounce to their step.
It was a close tie, with both teams failing to score a goal by the end of regulation. Fiorentina managed to edge out Champions League-prepared Bologna in penalties, where Maxime Lopez got the job done and scored the winning penalty kick in front of a roaring Florentine crowd at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
La viola’s wins since the Round of 16 came in penalties, something they’d want to avoid against Atalanta, especially because La Dea boast one of the most potent offences in the Italian top flight.
Fiorentina are coming in as the slight favourites for their semifinal clash against Atalanta, but don’t expect the same during the second leg of their contest. If SBOTOP football fans learned anything from La viola’s win over Bologna, it’s that Fiorentina may be underdogs on paper, but they’re worthy adversaries even against the best outfits in Italy.
So to expect winning Coppa Italia 2024 results from the Florentine outfit against an in-form La Dea shouldn’t be that tall of an order.
History
In their past head-to-heads in the Coppa Italia, Fiorentina have won two of their last three clashes. Their most recent Coppa Italia bout was during the 2022 iteration of the domestic cup, where La viola won a five-goal thriller against La Dea with a 2-3 score line.
But in recent form, Atalanta are the superior outfit. La Dea are rubbing elbows with the top clubs in Serie A and are very much in European contention, trailing just one point behind the surging Roma.
They recently thrashed defending Serie A champions Napoli with a humbling 3-0 clean sheet victory while defeating Sporting to reach the Europa League quarterfinals to boot.
Betting Tip
The odds have the home team Fiorentina as the slight favourites for their upcoming semi-final clash with Atalanta. La viola are smacked with a 2.43 price tag to win, while Atalanta are right there at 2.64 with 3.20 to tally a draw.
Based on their past head-to-head results, one could make sense why Fiorentina are the favourites coming into the match, and home advantage could factor in a lot in these types of bouts.
But Atalanta’s recent form is hard to oversee, and their success across all competitions shows that they’re a formidable outfit against any team, not just in Italy but in the whole continent to boot.
Which is why having Atalanta, with their current form, priced at 2.64 against Fiorentina poses great value for every kind of punter to consider.
