Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur
The English Premier League may have the look of a one-horse title race but football games like this can determine whether a second team gets involved.
For if Spurs win at Anfield, title betting odds, not to mention a real dose of optimism, could swing in the direction of the boys from White Hart Lane.
A long shot, yes, but stranger things have happened.
Of course, it’s of little comfort to Spurs that, had the season been over a calendar year, Tottenham would have been league champions in 2016.
Yet that is the measure of consistency they have achieved under Mauricio Pochettino.
Now they just need to sustain it over nine months in the same season!
Nine is the number actually for that is the distance between second-placed Spurs and leaders and overwhelming title favourites Chelsea.
They now visit a fifth place Liverpool side who considered themselves Chelsea’s main threat until a few weeks ago – proof that the landscape in football can change very quickly.
The Merseysiders’ failure to win a league game since the turn of the year – and just one win in 10 in all competitions – has stunned many of their followers and infuriated Jurgen Klopp.
Like Pochettino’s two and a half years in North London, Klopp’s 16 months at the managerial helm at Anfield can only be judged a positive one.
But, ultimately, success will be the benchmark and both men have work to do.
There’s little between these two sides as three successive draws in their league meetings prove.
Many will fancy this one to end level too, although such a result would really play into the hands of Chelsea.
Expect an attacking thriller as both sides go in search of an important win.
