Eintracht Frankfurt vs RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig could use a break from the Bundesliga. The Red Bulls have dropped points in back-to-back matches, which has seen them surrender the league lead to an in-form Bayern Munich.
Leipzig will now look to get back on track and pick up a much-needed win in the DFB Pokal, where they will take on Eintracht Frankfurt.
The DFB Pokal 2020 odds will have the Red Bulls favoured away from home as Leipzig prepare for a big weekend matchup against Bayern.
But Frankfurt just defeated Leipzig 2-0 in their recent visit to the Commerzbank-Arena a couple of weeks ago and will be confident they can bring down the Red Bulls once again at home.
Talking Points
Frankfurt turning the corner in 2020
Eintracht Frankfurt had a horrendous end to 2019. They went winless in their last seven matches of the year, with six of those matches resulting in defeats.
However, Adi Hutter’s side has seemingly turned the corner since the New Year. They picked up back-to-back Bundesliga wins for the first time all season as they beat Hoffenheim and Leipzig.
They were unable to keep that winning run going as they could only draw with second-from-bottom Fortuna Dusseldorf over the weekend. They needed a stoppage-time equaliser from American Timmy Chandler to salvage a point.
Although, picking up a point away from home is actually a positive result for Frankfurt, who have struggled on their travels this season. They’ve won just two of their 10 away matches, with one draw and seven defeats.
They’ve been significantly better at home, though. They’ve won five of 10 matches with three draws and just two defeats. They’ve also picked up their scoring as they’ve put in 21 goals in front of their home fans.
Aside from beating Leipzig, they also handed Bayern a stunning 5- 1 thrashing at the Commerzbank-Arena back in November. They also held Dortmund to a 2-2 draw, which proves just what a handful they are.
Leipzig losing momentum
RB Leipzig have lost their grip on top spot in the Bundesliga after a couple of disappointing performances. They produced a listless performance against Frankfurt and followed that up with a disappointing first half in their 2-2 draw at home against Borussia Monchengladbach.
And despite Gladbach going down to 10 men with half an hour left, they needed until the 89th minute to grab an equaliser.
The fact that the team flew in a hairdresser following their loss to Frankfurt — a move slammed by former coach Ralf Rangnick — indicated that the team might not be in the right frame of mind at the moment. And their unconvincing performance against Gladbach adds more evidence that all is not well with the team.
However, the quality manager Julian Nagelsmann has in his squad, particularly in attack, is undeniable. Even if top scorer Tim Werner is rested ahead of their massive clash against Bayern on the weekend, the likes of Patrik Schick (five goals), Christopher Nkunku (four goals, seven assists), Yussuf Poulsen, and new signing Dani Olmo are still capable of creating some DFB Pokal 2020 highlights.
Nagelsmann will be desperate to get back to winning ways ahead of the Bayern clash and will surely have his side completely drilled this time around.
History
Frankfurt and Leipzig have faced off just eight times, all of which have come in the Bundesliga. Leipzig hold the slight edge with three wins to two, while there have been three draws. Curiously enough, neither team has yet to win away from home against one another.
Leipzig don’t have the best track record in the DFB Pokal. They were runners-up to Bayern last season, but prior to that, they had gone past the second round just once in their short history. That was in 2014-15 when they reached the third round of the competition.
Betting Tip
Eintracht Frankfurt vs RB Leipzig | RB Leipzig 1X2 @ 2.02 | |
February 05, 01:30 (GMT+8) |
SBOBET odds have Leipzig priced as 2.02 favourites to move on to the next round, with Frankfurt at 3.35 to score another upset over the slumping Red Bulls. A draw is 3.50.
Despite their recent struggles, I’m going with Leipzig to get some revenge over Frankfurt and grab the away win.
They simply have too much-attacking talent, and unlike their first meeting, they will make it count this time around. I don’t expect Werner to play a part in this cup tie, but even so, I remain confident that Nagelsmann will get his side in order following their recent setbacks.
