Sevilla 0-5 Barcelona
Barcelona won the Copa del Rey tonight at the Wanda Metropolitano with a blistering display to blow Sevilla away.
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez terrorised the Sevilla defence, scoring three before the break in a wonderful display of attacking football. The pre-match handicap betting offer said Sevilla needed a one goal advantage, but that was never enough. And with La Liga nearly wrapped up, betting websites will soon close the book on a Barca domestic double.
Ernesto Valverde’s side was in irresistible form, almost scoring at will and keeping the live betting market buzzing throughout. It took just 14 minutes for the favourites to go ahead when Philippe Coutinho stood the ball up for Suarez to poke the ball home. And the second goal was a piece of art. Jordi Alba played a beautiful one-two with Andres Iniesta before feeding Messi to fire into the roof of the net. And then Messi turned provider on 40 to thread a superb ball through for Suarez to make it three.
Any thoughts of a second half reprieve for Sevilla lasted only six minutes when Iniesta brilliantly rounded the keeper and finished from a tight angle. It could be the magnificent midfielder’s swansong for Barca and boy, it epitomised the class he’s shown for years. And then Coutinho got his reward for another impressive display, scoring from the spot after Clement Lenglet had handled in the box.
It was a display fit to win any title. Sevilla is a good side but could only stand and admire. And the Champions League semi-finalists will have watched this game with some relief that Barca is out.
But this was Valverde’s team’s night, and they still look like the best in Europe.
