And this one is heating up for sure. Sevilla and Barca hit four each to stay close to Real Madrid after Los Blancos grabbed a narrow win at least 24 hours earlier.
It’s great for handicap betting too. If you backed Barca with a big handicap or ‘overs’ on free-scoring Sevilla, it was an even better weekend!
Real Madrid 2-1 Malaga
Betting tips expected a comfortable day for Zinedine Zidane and two first-half goals for Sergio Ramos seemed to ease a path to victory for the leaders. But a clinical finish by Juanpi on 63 minutes sent a few jitters around the Bernabeu. Malaga pushed for an equaliser but the hosts held out to temporarily go four points clear.
Osasuna 3-4 Sevilla
Sevilla reduced the gap to a point, although they have played a game more than Real, after a thrilling 4-3 win at bottom club Osasuna. At 2-2 by the 80th minute, it looked like a badly missed chance for the chasers but then Franco Vazquez scored with a crucial header before both teams added another injury time goal.
Eibar 0-4 Barcelona
Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar all scored to keep Barca in the hunt, a single point further back. Denis Suarez fired the opener before the second half rout courtesy of the magnificent three. With a better goal difference, they too are ready to threaten Los Blanco’s lead.
Athletic Club 2-2 Atletico Madrid
A brilliant Antoine Griezmann strike was only enough to win a point for Atletico and they drift eight points from the top. But it could have been worse as the Bilbao side led for much of the game until Griezmann fired home from distance.
Real Sociedad 1-0 Celta Vigo
Eusebio Sacristan’s Real Sociedad are on the same points as Atletico after a hard fought win over eighth-placed Celta Vigo. Sergio Canales’ pinpoint cross was headed in by Juanmi on 72 minutes.
Villarreal 0-2 Valencia
A shock for all concerned at the Estadio de la Ceramica as the normally dependable Villarreal fell to a struggling Valencia side which have climbed to 15th and six points from the drop. Carlos Soler and Santi Mina sunk the Yellow submarine by half time.
Espanyol 3-1 Granada
The second club in Barcelona are enjoying a good season and Espanyol are up to ninth while Granada stay deep in the relegation mire. Marc Navarro’s 48th-minute screamer was the pick of the goals and put the hosts 3-1 up.
Las Palmas 1-1 Deportivo la Coruna
The fun started Saturday in Gran Canaria when Mateo Garcia volleyed the hosts in front, but a Florin Andone equaliser and a red card for Las Palmas’ for Oliva Aythami stopped the celebrations. Las Palmas are still unbeaten at home though.
Alaves 2-2 Leganes
An 84th-minute header by Pablo Insua grabbed a late point for Leganes and kept them five points clear of the drop zone. I’m cheering for the Madrid minnows but will they run out of steam by May? Alaves are comfortable in 12th.
Real Betis 0-0 Sporting Gijon
35,000 fans stuck it out at the Benito Villamarin in a game littered by fouls and low on quality. As the game wore on, neither side looked like scoring and it’s a better point for Sporting Gijon, although visitors are still in 18th place.
