We’ve had it all in the Premier League this weekend: fantastic action, 29 goals, injury scares and shameful fan behaviour at West Ham. Just another day in England hey!
Premier League betting threw up few surprises with the big six, Liverpool apart, fairing well. Meanwhile, it’s heating up at the bottom end, and those of us planning to bet online on England in the World Cup collectively winced when Harry Kane went off injured.
Stoke City 0-2 Manchester City
After watching Manchester United beat Liverpool in the weekend opener, City closed this round of games with a classy win in the Potteries. David Silva brilliantly finished off two wonderful moves that were enough, though Raheem Sterling should have made it three. Stoke stay in big trouble in 19th.
Bournemouth 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur
Junior Stanislas gave the Cherries a shock lead on the south coast, but the only other surprise was that Harry Kane wasn’t on the scoresheet as Spurs hit four, Heung-Min Son bagging a brace. All the talk is of Kane limping out of the ground with another ankle injury…oh no!
Chelsea 2-1 Crystal Palace
Chelsea stay in the Champions League hunt after a deflected Willian shot and a Martin Kelly own goal put the Blues in charge at Stamford Bridge. Patrick van Aanholt’s injury-time reply wasn’t enough to lift Palace out of the drop zone.
Arsenal 3- 0 Watford
The Gunners got back to winning ways as former Dortmund buddies Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan added to Shkodran Mustafi’s early opener. Troy Deeney missed a penalty for the Hornets on a welcome good day for Arsene Wenger.
West Ham United 0-3 Burnley
Arsenal fans can be grumpy at times but the Hammers’ crowd was on a different level as things turned ugly at the London Stadium. The game was halted by pitch invasions as Burnley destroyed West Ham in a blistering second half. Chris Wood scored two after Ashley Barnes hit a peach to open the scoring.
West Bromwich Albion 1-4 Leicester City
It’s looking grim for the poor Baggies as a sixth successive loss leaves them eight points from safety at the foot of the table. Jamie Vardy scored a lovely goal and Riyad Mahrez was in fine form as Leicester’s star men seem happy to play for their current manager, as they battle with Burnley for seventh place.
Everton 2-0 Brighton & Hove Albion
The Toffees can’t buy a win away from home but they’re impressive at Goodison Park, this time beating an in-form Brighton side thanks to expensive signing Cenk Tosun getting his first goal on home soil. Chris Hughton’s Seagulls are almost safe on 34 points.
Newcastle United 3-0 Southampton
The big winners in the relegation scrap this weekend were the Magpies who moved up to 13th after an impressive win which left the Saints just a point above the drop zone. Brazilian Kenedy, who has been a godsend for the Geordies, scored a double while the lively Matt Ritchie added one. That defeat saw the end of Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino.
Huddersfield Town 0-0 Swansea City
Carlos Carvalhal celebrated this goalless draw like a win after his ten Swans held out for over 80 minutes, following Jordan Ayew’s early sending off. The Terriers’ survival hopes have been helped by some vital wins, but failing to score with 81 percent possession isn’t a good sign. They’re still fighting for their lives, though.
