Napoli returned to the top of the Italian league this weekend with an impressive win in Turin, deposing Inter, who were stunned at home by Udinese.
Inter had led Serie A with the only unbeaten record, but betting odds on the title winner hold Napoli and Juventus up as the favourites to fight it out. And after this weekend, it looks like they’re bang on!
Napoli blew Torino away in an explosive first half, going three up at the break and eventually running out 1-3 winners. The handicap betting odds, at around 1.88 with –0.75 goals, suggested a tighter match but Napoli made a mockery of recent noise that their campaign was stuttering, as Marek Hamsik rounded off the first half with a fine finish. Andrea Belotti grabbed a consolation for the hosts.
Miralem Pjanic set Juventus on the way to a 0-3 win away to Bologna with a stunning free-kick, and that keeps the Bianconeri on Napoli’s trail, just a point behind. Mario Mandzukic and Blaise Matuidi added goals in a comfortable win for the champions. Kevin Lasagna, Rodrigo De Paul and Antonin Barak were Udinese’s heroes in a 1-3 win at the San Siro to end Inter’s 16-match unbeaten run.
Roma are in fourth but left it very late to beat Cagliari 1-0, Federico Fazio poking home from close range on 94 minutes. Josip Ilicic scored a brace for Atalanta, as did Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for Lazio in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Struggling Sassuolo picked up a surprise 0-1 win in Sampdoria, and there was more misery for Milan after going down to a shock 3-0 defeat away to 19th-placed Hellas Verona.
Elsewhere, there were vital wins for relegation battlers Crotone and SPAL, while Fiorentina played out a goalless draw with Genoa.
