Sevilla 2-0 Real Betis
What an exciting time to be a football fan once more as La Liga is back in full swing this weekend.
We are more than excited here at SBOBET to see our favourite players and teams back in action. And last night, we’ve been treated to an exciting matchup between Sevilla and Real Betis at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
The home team were able to kick things off with a resounding win against their Seville derby rivals as they scored two goals while keeping a clean sheet.
Lucas Ocampos, whose fitness was in doubt prior to this match, churned out a fine performance all throughout this fixture – which includes scoring the goal that gave Sevilla the lead for good.
The Argentinian winger also had a hand for the second goal of the evening for Sevilla. As expected, he was named Man of the Match last night.
Despite playing on an empty arena, Sevilla showed no rust whatsoever in their overall play as they controlled the pace on both ends of the pitch. They were, after all, heavily favoured in our La Liga 2020 odds in the 1×2 market.
With the victory, Los Palanganas maintained their hold on the third spot while momentarily shortening the gap between them and second-seeded Real Madrid as they now have 50 and 56 points respectively. They can shorten the gap even further should they be able to emerge victorious in their next two matches.
Today, let’s take a moment and review last night’s set of La Liga 2020 highlights.
Highlights of the game
The match started with both teams holding a moment of silence to pay their respects to the lives that were taken away due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But after the quiet ceremony, exciting action ensued at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
Lucas Ocampos had the first real chance in the 12th minute when he tried to chip a short shot in coming from the right flank. Although the defence was a bit lackadaisical on Real Betis’ part, Ocampos’ attempt didn’t go at the back of the net since it bounced off the crossbar.
In the 21st minute, Jules Kounde had a header attempt via a Sevilla corner kick, but his shot was a whisker short from going in the goal. Munir El Haddadi had a similar chance five minutes later.
Right before the end of the first half, Real Betis would have their first real chance when Sergio Canales fired one from long range. However, his strike was too wide on the left side.
After failing to convert in so many chances in the first half, Julen Lopetegui’s men would finally take charge in the ensuing half.
In a set-piece during the 54th minute, Marc Bartra was given a yellow card after fouling Luuk de Jong inside the box during a corner kick. That led to Lucas Ocampos having his first goal of the evening via a penalty.
Lucas Ocampos would have a hand in Los Palanganas’ second goal of the evening when he produced a sublime back-heel assist to Fernando to head one home six minutes later.
Joaquin, who is one of Real Betis’ top scorers, was on target with his attempt towards the late game. However, a Sevilla defender was able to block the shot away.
Playing in an empty arena was definitely a weird feeling for both of these teams, although the television broadcast tried to recreate the live experience by inserting simulated crowd noise and images.
But nonetheless, Lucas Ocampos would take this win any day since it would help them seal their Champions League spot.
“I had never played a derby here before and even though the fans are not here I still wanted to honour them and make it feel like they were and show that we are working hard for them,” said Ocampos.
