La Liga: Sevilla Set Their Sights to Sink The Yellow Submarine

Villarreal vs Sevilla

They passed a big test at Seville the other day when they held the league leaders Barcelona to a goalless draw. And this time, they will be the ones giving out the test when they visit Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Tuesday night.

Sevilla currently hold the solo third spot at the La Liga table with 52 points after two draws and one win since the league’s restart and they will aim for more points in order to cement their place in next year’s Champions League.

The home team in Villarreal is no slouch either, winning their first three matches since the restart and this will mark the first time that they’ll face a top-five team since late February.

They are at the seventh spot with 47 points and in a three-way tie against Getafe and Real Sociedad.

With both teams fighting for position for either an Europa League or Champions League spot, grabbing points will be crucial especially as the 2019/20 season is winding down.

Who will emerge victorious at the Estadio de la Ceramica next week? Let this SBOBET preview offer you guidance on your next bet.

Talking Points

The Yellow Submarines retooling

Villarreal are one of the hottest teams in La Liga after notching three victories in a row since the restart.

After losing three straight prior to the break, Javier Calleja’s men took care of business against some of the bottom-tier teams.

Celta Vigo, RCD Mallorca, and Granada were their victims and they all coincidentally lost in identical 1-0 clean sheets.

In those matches, a lot of players have stepped up to the plate with the likes of Carlos Bacca and Manu Trigueros adding on to their goal count this campaign.

Villarreal have won all their 3 matches since La Liga resumes in to action
Gerard Moreno celebrates scoring a goal for Villarreal

It’s considered good news if you’re Javier Calleja especially since he’s relied on the veteran duo of Gerard Moreno and Santi Cazorla pretty much all season – accounting for 20 goals and nine assists so far this term.

But lest you think that Villarreal are already satisfied with their overall attack with 47 goals as of this writing, they’ve reinforced their roster by bringing in Paco Alcacer from Borussia Dortmund via transfers five months ago.

The Spanish international has been a key piece for BVB in recent seasons, leading them out front as their key striker. However, with the arrival of Erling Haaland, he was already considered as expendable.

Alcacer has yet to get his feet wet for Villarreal, scoring only two goals and one assist in his limited time. But it’s expected that Javier Calleja will give him more playing time in order to regain his dangerous form once more.

Lucas Ocampos grabbing headlines

Lucas Ocampos burst into the scene the minute that La Liga restarted by producing goals and a ton of La Liga 2020 highlights.

The 25-year-old winger has proven to be vital for Sevilla, using his speed and threat to score to create opportunities for himself and his teammates.

In his last five La Liga matches, Ocampos has recorded five goals and two assists and has arguably been Sevilla’s best player this season.

He has fit in well to Julen Lopetegui’s system especially in the 4-3-3 formation where he uses his high work rate to support both his full-back and striker depending on the situation. Standing over at six feet and his good physique, Ocampos can be dangerous both in the open or in set-pieces.

In addition, he has made a name for himself in Argentina, scoring two goals in his last three appearances with the national team.

With his impact for the club, I won’t be surprised to see if the Argentinean will garner significant interest from some of the Europe’s big clubs soon.

History

Villarreal and Sevilla have met each other 45 times prior to this match.

Sevilla hold the advantage in their overall head-to-head matchups by winning in 20 while Villarreal won in 13 along with 12 draws.

Villarreal fared decently at home this season with seven wins, four losses, and three draws – good for 10th overall in La Liga.

As for Sevilla, they are at par with Real Madrid as the best road team in La Liga this season, which is considered a job well done for team manager Julen Lopetegui.

Betting Tip

??
Villarreal vs Sevilla Sevilla Asian Handicap 0.00 @ 1.93
June 23, 01:30 (GMT+8)

In our latest La Liga 2020 odds, Sevilla only hold a slight edge as they are priced at 2.67 while Villarreal are at 2.77, and a draw is at 3.00 in the 1×2 market.

I wouldn’t blame you if you fancy a draw for this one given the good form of these two teams. But my personal pick would be Los Palanganas getting the three points on the road.

Villarreal, although they are enjoying a three-game winning streak, they have yet to face a tougher club like Sevilla in that stretch.

Sevilla, meanwhile, are probably riding high in confidence after their superb performance against Barcelona which is why I’m picking them to win on this upcoming fixture.
