Sevilla vs Getafe
The top La Liga action heads to Andalucia this weekend as second-placed Sevilla host Getafe in a big game at both ends of the league table.
Los Sevillanos come into the match on the back of a 2-0 Copa del Rey victory over Real Zaragoza, while their visitors are still smiling having beaten Real Madrid 1-0 last week.
That was a huge result for Los Azulones as they have been in the thick of the relegation mire throughout the first half of the campaign and they are now starting to look upwards.
At the top end of the table, the latest La Liga 2022 betting odds have dropped Real Madrid to a price of 1.12 and Sevilla are the team with the best chance of chasing Carlo Ancelotti’s league leaders down. The SBOTOP odds on a successful Sevilla chase are 8.00, with Atletico further out at 18.00 and Barcelona at 28.00.
Los Blancos host Valencia on Saturday and, should Los Che spring a surprise on the Madrid giants, then a Sevilla win over Getafe will close the gap to two or three points and that’s a massive incentive for Julen Lopetegui’s team.

Sevilla’s Argentine class
A recent draw with Barcelona and a victory over Atletico Madrid has seen Sevilla prove they can pose the biggest challenge to Real Madrid’s title aspirations. And they also proved they can tough it out, as they did in a hard fought 1-0 win over struggling Cadiz last week.
Argentine hit man Lucas Ocampos hit the only goal of the game on 58 minutes to claw Sevilla to within reaching distance of leaders Real Madrid.
The Argentine connection has worked well for Sevilla. Ocampos’ strike against Cadiz was his fifth of the campaign while former Spurs star Erik Lamela has added four.
Attacking midfielder Papu Gomez and defenders Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel make up the Argentine five who have imposed themselves on the league.
Meanwhile, Spanish midfielder Joan Jordan and Croatian wide man Ivan Rakitic add to the midfield steel and support for the strikers.
Since losing to Real Madrid on 28th November, Sevilla have gone on a run of five wins and a draw in the league and the momentum continues to grow.
Getafe fear no one
At 1.57 to win, the hosts are expected to see off Getafe but they will underestimate their visitors at their peril.
Head coach Quique’s side have already beaten Real Madrid and can’t be counted out at a price of 5.41. Back-to-back 1-0 wins at home over Osasuna and then Los Blancos have lifted Los Azulones out of the relegation zone and up to 16th place, two clear of the bottom three.
The win over Real Madrid was one of the tactical masterclasses of the campaign. Turkish striker Enes Unal scored his seventh goal of the campaign as Getafe started with a high press. Unal robbed Eder Militao of possession deep in the Real Madrid half and then fired the underdogs into the lead.
Real then dominated possession but the Getafe defence kept them at arms length, limiting them to long range shots and only one on target in the first half.
The excellent David Soria was unbeatable in the Getafe goal and he made one particularly good save, diverting Luka Modric’s long range effort past the post to earn a well-deserved clean sheet.
History
The head-to-heads between Sevilla and Getafe have been well-contested. Lopetegui’s team has won 18 to Getafe’s 13 in all competitions this century.
The scores were at 13 apiece before Sevilla won the last five, scoring 10 unanswered goals. They met on Matchday Two of this campaign when a goal from Erik Lamela deep into stoppage time was enough to take all three points back to Seville.
Getafe are yet to win away this season with four draws and five defeats from their nine trips while Sevilla are unbeaten in five games at home.
Both teams have been impressive in recent weeks. Sevilla have five wins and a draw from the last six while Getafe have won three, drawn two, and lost one.

The draw at 3.64 may be worth a closer look. But while Getafe stunned Los Blancos last week, Sevilla are made of stern stuff and they have a big incentive as well as key players such as Ocampos coming into form. Sevilla’s La Liga 2022 results need to be as good, if not better than those from the first half of the campaign and that means starting with a win over Getafe on Sunday.
