Six matches to go and we’re at the business end of the La Liga season. It’s El Clasico weekend coming up, of course, and then there are a host of other massive football games to whet the appetite.

Nerves will be shredded across the land by Monday as, with European ambitions and survival at stake, time is fast running out.

WEEK 33 FRIDAY:

Sevilla vs Granada

It could get messy for relegation-threatened Granada in Seville on Saturday morning. The hosts are at betting odds of 1.86 to win with a -2.00 handicap, and top scorer Wissam Ben Yedder will be licking his lips. Tony Adams’ Granada were brushed aside 3-0 by Celta Vigo in his first match, and Sevilla will be hungry to win again.

Malaga vs Valencia

Two wins in April, one against Barca, have made Malaga safe in 15th. Valencia have been comfortable for some time after a run of three wins and a draw, that point against Sevilla last time out. Another draw here, maybe?

Villarreal vs Leganes

It’s squeaky-bum time for 17th-placed Leganes, having accumulated enough points to give themselves a great chance of survival; three defeats on the bounce haven’t helped, though. Villarreal are still in fifth despite defeat to Alaves on Tuesday.

WEEK 33 SUNDAY:

Celta Vigo vs Real Betis

Sixteen-goal Iago Aspas has been the star of Celta Vigo’s season so far, allowing the tenth-placed hosts to play with freedom. Real Betis have lost three away games on the bounce, the last a 4-1 thumping in Las Palmas; they did beat Eibar at the weekend, however.

Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico have taken advantage of Sevilla’s recent malaise to move into third place and are at 1.91 to win with a -0.75 handicap in Barcelona. The Catalans are up to ninth after back-to-back 1-0 wins, and Gerard Moreno is a constant threat on 11 goals. It’s a good test for Diego Simeone’s boys after midweek Champions League exploits.

Real Sociedad vs Deportivo La Coruna

After flirting seriously with the unthinkable prospect of relegation for most of the season, Depor settled their fans’ nerves with a 2-0 win over Malaga last week and should be safe. With just one win in six, Real have dropped to seventh and badly need a victory to keep their Europa dreams alive.

Osasuna vs Sporting Gijon

Defeat for Leganes could see their five-point cushion seriously eroded as 20th plays 18th. Osasuna are still just about in the hunt after two wins in the last three, while Gijon have failed to close the gap on 17th with their own three consecutive losses. Looks like a draw at 3.20 could be on the cards.

WEEK 33 MONDAY:

Las Palmas vs Alaves

You know what to expect with Las Palmas: they win at home and lose away. This is true certainly in the last six games and indeed for most of the season. Copa finalists Alaves seem to have all their attention on that glittering prize but did halt a three-match losing streak by beating Villarreal on Tuesday.

WEEK 33 TUESDAY:

Eibar vs Athletic Club

And what a cracking game to finish the weekend! Eighth-placed Eibar host sixth-placed Atheltic Club, both with realistic hopes of European football. A home win would see the hosts leapfrog their visitors. Both have won three of the last four and will be well up for the battle.
