That translates as big balls basically as Watford skipper Troy Deeney explained so eloquently last weekend.
Discipline is another of the attributes required.
Those facets will no doubt manifest itself in football games up and down the country this weekend.
WEEK 9 SATURDAY:
West Ham United vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Discipline may be the name of the game at the Olympic Stadium.
Indeed, whoever shows the most discipline may well triumph here sports betting fans.
West Ham need to show some more after Andy Carroll’s two cautions in the space of 99 seconds last weekend – which will see him banned in this game – left them ultimately unable to defend a one goal advantage for more than an hour.
Brighton need to be able to close out games such as their last encounter, with Everton, when the ill-discipline of their captain Bruno undid all their previous hard work which had led them to the brink of victory.
Chelsea vs Watford FC
For the second time in three weeks, Chelsea are thrown straight into Premier League action, less than 72 hours after European combat.
That questions are already being asked of Antonio Conte’s ability to claw back a nine point deficit to the league leaders suggests all is not well at the reigning champions.
Watford arrive in town after showing ‘cojones’ to see off Arsenal. Under impressive manager Marco Silva, they will relish their trip to Stamford Bridge too.
Huddersfield Town vs Manchester United
The last time these two clubs met was in 1972 so this will be a special occasion for Terriers’ fans, officials, and players alike.
The arrival of the biggest name in English football will be one to savour and it won’t be easy for United in the middle of a five-game spell within 12 days.
This should well be an entertaining contest.
Manchester City vs Burnley
Will the Clarets be fearful of going to the Etihad?
City’s fearful attacking performances in which they have scored 29 league goals in their opening eight matches – the most since Everton in 1894 – suggests they should be.
However, unbeaten displays at Chelsea, Liverpool, and Spurs suggest Sean Dyche’s side will have ‘cojones’ of their own to put up a spirited display.
Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace
That Newcastle have residence in the top half of the Premier League table is an indication of the work ongoing on Tyneside.
That Crystal Palace have a first win and first goals of the season – against the champions – is proof of Roy Hodgson’s abilities, despite the ill-fated latter stages of his England reign.
Wilfried Zaha is a quality performer and he should be able to lead an Eagles’ surge up the table over the months ahead.
Stoke City vs Bournemouth
Stoke boss Mark Hughes was full of praise for Manchester City after they inflicted a 7-2 mauling on his side.
The clinical nature of that display was helped by Stoke missing key defenders of their own but even their inclusion would not have prevented defeat.
That they come up against the Cherries will be less daunting but is not a match which can be taken for granted.
Bournemouth would likely have held Spurs last weekend but for two fine saves from Hugo Lloris.
Swansea City vs Leicester City
If Leicester City could sack Claudio Ranieri nine months after he inspired them to the Premier League title, then no-one should really be surprised his successor Craig Shakespeare has lasted a matter of months himself.
Yet the actions of the club owners – single-minded and ruthless – could yet come back to haunt them if they are not careful.
The treatment of another popular figure at the King Power Stadium will either inspire an improved display on the pitch from the Foxes or lead to a deflating mood inside the camp.
Either way, Swansea will want to capitalise with a second home win in a week to ease their own worries.
WEEK 9 SUNDAY:
Southampton vs West Bromwich Albion
Southampton have failed to score in eight of their last 10 league games at St Mary’s – a statistic largely mirrored by the dip in form of Manolo Gabbiadini.
That was put right last weekend when the Italian struck a double in a 2-2 home draw with Newcastle.
West Brom will offer resistance to that and ask questions of their own in what could be seen as a proverbial clash of mid-table teams.
That it is dubbed as such is a credit to both clubs, now firmly established in the top-flight.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool
After midweek success in the Champions League, what lies ahead for these two attacking sides?
It’s virtually two years to the day since Jurgen Klopp marked his first match in charge at Liverpool with a 1-1 draw at Spurs.
As his record is pored over, so an assessment of Mauricio Pochettino’s Wembley record continues.
This has the potential to be a thriller and a real test of both side’s domestic credentials.
