Juventus 4-0 AC Milan
Juventus blew Milan away tonight, in a blistering eight minute spell in Rome, to win a fourth successive Coppa and set up a likely double.
Of course this team has played many big football games, and was clear favourite on betting websites to win this one, but this was classic Bianconeri as they kept Milan at bay for 45 minutes before crushing them with three quick-fire goals. Defender Mehdi Benatia scored a double and you’d have got good betting odds on that!
Milan gave as good as they got in a first half when Hakan Calhanoglu looked lively, but the best chance fell to Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic who could only head tamely at Donnarumma in the Milan goal.
I don’t know what Max Allegri said to his team at half time but, boy, did it work!
Early in the second half Paulo Dybala sprung the offside trap but couldn’t beat Donnarumma with a low shot. And then the Milan keeper was at full stretch to keep out a stinging drive from the Argentine. But he could do nothing moments later when Mehdi Benatia met the corner with a thumping header into the net.
And, after a good hour’s work, it seems harsh on the Milan keeper to blame him for the second, but it was a howler! Douglas Costa fired straight at the keeper and the ball bounced into the goal off his chest. That seemed to shake the poor lad and moments later it was three when he spilled the ball for Benatia to smash home his second.
To add insult to injury, the young keeper conceded a fourth when his own player Nikola Kalinic planted a header past him.
It was painful for Donnarumma and Milan, but for Juve, a record fourth consecutive double beckons!
