Swansea climbed out of the bottom three thanks to a first win for new boss Paul Clement as his men shocked high-flying Liverpool at Anfied.
In another thrilling set of football games this weekend, betting tips went out of the window on Merseyside. Elsewhere, hot title favourites Chelsea extended their lead to eight points; and live betting odds fluctuated wildly at the Emirates as Arsenal moved second with a controversial last-gasp winner.
Liverpool 2-3 Swansea City
After Chelsea target Fernando Llorente had given Swansea a surprise two-goal lead the Reds hit back quickly with a Roberto Firmino brace; and with twenty minutes left it seemed there was only going to be one winner until Gylfi Sigurdsson expertly finished to leave Jurgen Klopp’s stars desperately, and unsuccessfully seeking a late equaliser.
Chelsea 2-0 Hull City
Hull defended tirelessly to stay within a goal of the league leaders after returning Diego Costa fired the opener deep into first-half injury time. Gary Cahill headed the second on the 80th minute to send relief around Stamford Bridge and keep the Chelsea march to glory on track.
Arsenal 2-1 Burnley
Laurent Koscielny won a 98th-minute penalty from a clearly offside position to help the Gunners squeeze past Burnley after Andre Gray had equalised Shkodran Mustafi’s opener. Alexis Sanchez coolly chipped home from the spot to take Arsenal second, while unlucky Burnley failed to add to their solitary away point.
Stoke City 1-1 Manchester United
Wayne Rooney became Manchester United’s all-time leading goal scorer with a 94th-minute beauty to grab a point after Stoke had led for much of the game. United’s Juan Mata was the happiest man to see Rooney’s free kick fly in having slid Stoke’s early opener past his own keeper, before missing a sitter at the right end.
Crystal Palace 0-1 Everton
Sam Allardyce is still looking for his first league win at Palace and will no doubt be itching to double the size of his squad in the next nine days. The players he has are easily good enough to avoid relegation but need to remember where the goal is while Sam shores up the back. Seamus Coleman punished the Eagles in the 87th minute.
West Bromwich Albion 2-0 Sunderland
First half volleys from Darren Fletcher and Chris Brunt gave the Baggies an unassailable lead and condemned sad Sunderland to bottom spot. Both were stunning strikes and cemented West Brom’s eighth position, four points clear of ninth.
Middlesbrough 1-3 West Ham United
The Hammers showed again they don’t need the want away Dimitri Payet with a well-earned win, thanks to a first-half double from the rejuvenated Andy Carroll. Christhian Stuani netted a rare goal for Boro but Jonathan Calleri made the points safe deep into injury time.
Southampton 3-0 Leicester City
The champions suffered a second consecutive 3-0 defeat as James Ward-Prowse and Jay Rodriguez gave the dominant Saints a first-half lead. Dusan Tadic added a late penalty to leave the Foxes in 15th. Southampton are up to 11th.
Bournemouth 2-2 Watford
These two played out a mid-table draw as Benik Afobe came off the bench to grab a late equaliser for the Cherries. Christian Kabasele and Troy Deeney were on target for the Hornets while Josh King also netted for Bournemouth. Both are looking reasonably safe.
