The summer transfer window is set to close shut in a week’s time, and the top Premier League clubs are still working hard to seal some last-minute deals before the deadline.
The biggest of which is of course the much-hyped Harry Kane-to-Manchester City move which still hasn’t been sealed despite months of speculation.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are still working to improve their squad – with or without Kane – and title contenders Chelsea and Manchester United remain keen on in adding more stars to their squads.
Read on below as SBOTOP gives a rundown of the latest Premier League transfer news ahead of the Aug. 31 deadline.
Time running out for Man City in Harry Kane chase
The Harry Kane transfer saga is still not over. Despite consistent rumours linking him to a move to Manchester City, the Tottenham Hotspur striker is still stuck in north London.
Recent Premier League 2021 updates suggest City have already made a bid in the region of £120 million, which would smash the British transfer record they just set with their £100 million deal for Jack Grealish. However, Spurs have stood firm and are demanding more for their star striker.
City are reportedly set to make a final offer worth a staggering £150 million this week to finally force Spurs chairmain Daniel Levy to sell.
This transfer saga has predictably dragged on longer than expected as Levy attempts to get the most amount of money for his star player. The two sides will likely continue to haggle well into the week, but it would be a surprise if Kane doesn’t eventually make his way to Manchester by the deadline.
Spurs set to land Sarr, on the hunt for Wolves star
As Tottenham await the resolution to the Kane saga, they are also busy making other transfer moves.
For one, they are nearing a deal for Metz midfielder Pape Sarr. Although, the 18-year-old is unlikely to come over to the Premier League this season and could remain on loan in France until June 2022.
Still, Sarr’s arrival could spell the end for record signing Tanguy Ndombele, who has attracted interest from Bayern Munich. The German giants have reportedly offered £17.2 million plus French midfielder Corentin Tolisso, which Spurs have rebuffed.
Meanwhile, Spurs are also reportedly in talks with Wolves for winger Adama Traore. Spurs are not short on wingers, with Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn, and new signing Bryan Gil all capable of playing wide. But coach Nuno Espirito Santo is very familiar with Traore during his time at Wolves and knows how to get the best out of him.
As for potential Kane replacements in case he moves to City, Spurs reportedly have genuine interest in Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, who scored 21 goals in 37 games in Serie A last season, but they have yet to put in an official bid.
However, the Viola appear intent on keeping Vlahovic amid interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid, so it will likely take a huge bid from Spurs to sign him away.
Chelsea still chasing more stars
Chelsea already sealed one of the biggest transfers of the summer in Romelu Lukaku, who has markedly improved their Premier League 2021 odds of winning the title. But the Blues are still eyeing at least one more big move before the deadline.
Their main priority is to sign Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, who would strengthen an already formidable Chelsea defence. Kounde has already agreed personal terms with the club and is just awaiting Sevilla and Chelsea to reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, Kurt Zouma looks to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge and is currently in talks with West Ham United.
Aside from Kounde, Chelsea are also contemplating whether to go for another central midfielder. Atletico Madrid’s Saul could be a possible option as his future with the Spanish champions remains unclear.
Man United ‘unlikely’ to land Camavinga
Manchester United have had a fantastic summer transfer window as they added two big stars in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. However, they appear unlikely to add a third star in Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, sources have told ESPN.
The highly touted French youngster’s contract expires at the end of the season and is unwilling to sign a new long-term deal, so Rennes are open to selling him for a fee of €35 million instead of losing him on a free transfer next summer.
United have expressed interest in Camavinga, but the teenager reportedly prefers to stay in France – presumably with Paris Saint-Germain – or move to Spain.
Liverpool looking to unload fringe players
And last but not least, Liverpool appear to be more focused on outgoing transfers as opposed to incoming deals in the last week of the window.
Xherdan Shaqiri has already completed his move to Ligue 1 side Lyon. The Swiss midfielder has seen his playing time plummet in recent months, and with the Reds loaded with midfield options, he was unlikely to get much playing time this year had he stayed.
Meanwhile, striker Divock Origi could be the next one out the door at Anfield, with some Bundesliga clubs reportedly interested in the Belgian’s services. Diogo Jota’s emergence last season has pushed Origi even further down the pecking order of attackers, so he likely has to leave Liverpool for more playing time.
