Can Liverpool bounce back again?
Jurgen Klopp is still smarting from the Reds’ latest away defeat in the Champions League, accusing PSG players of unsporting behaviour and making his players ‘look like butchers’ during the French team’s 2-1 win on Wednesday. The Reds have had real trouble on the road in Europe, losing to Napoli, Red Star Belgrade and now PSG. But they dusted themselves off after losing to the first two to draw with Manchester City and beat Fulham.
They have the firepower to bounce back against Everton. Mo Salah is up there with the Premier League top scorers again: he’s on seven and is just a single goal behind leaders Sergio Aguero and Pierre Emerick-Aubamayang. Sadio Mane has six, and both will pose the Toffees’ defence plenty of problems.
Klopp’s midfield will need to be well-organised to thwart any Everton attack while giving their own forward players the space and supply they need to score. And they’ll have to do it without influential skipper Jordan Henderson who is suspended, having picked up two yellow cards in the recent 3-0 win over Watford, so the middle of the park will be a crucial battleground.

The Toffees have got nicely into their stride in the Premier League and have shown how they can frustrate an elite team, drawing at Stamford Bridge against a powerful Chelsea side. And the Liverpool boss says Everton are rapidly growing into a Champions League quality side under the guidance of Marco Silva.
The return of Seamus Coleman after such a long layoff has made the Toffees stronger at the back, as has the return to form of centre-half Michael Keane.
Attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson finally seems to be realising his potential at Everton after Swansea in the Premier League single-handedly for a couple of seasons. He has six goals, as has striker Richarlison. The 21-year-old looks far more accomplished as a striker than last season at Watford.

Liverpool won 23 of the Mersey derbies since 1993, with 22 draws and nine won by the Toffees. Both were drawn last season and were low-scoring affairs at 0-0 and 1-1.
Everton have a huge task to break a long sequence of Red dominance. Everton’s last derby win was in 2010, and Liverpool haven’t lost one of these fixtures at home in 20 matches, the last Everton triumph coming way back in 1999.
Klopp’s side is still unbeaten in the Premier League with 10 wins and three draws. they sit just two points behind leaders Manchester City.

Despite the Toffees’ impressive improvement this season, the Liverpool vs Everton betting odds are stacked in favour of a home win, so I think the value is in a bet on the number of goals. It’s hard to see Everton stopping the Reds for 90-plus minutes, and I can’t equally see Liverpool having it all their own way.
I certainly wouldn’t be shocked by a draw, but a 2-1 or 2-0 home win is more likely.
