Premier League: Erik ten Hag Makes Great First Impression at Old Trafford

There’s a sense of excitement in the air following Erik ten Hag’s arrival as Manchester United’s new boss. The Dutchman certainly has big shoes to fill, but he’s welcoming his new Premier League challenge with open arms.

The Red Devils are coming off a disastrous 2021/22 campaign, and supporters at Old Trafford are hopeful that their new manager can improve their Premier League 2022 odds next season.

Meanwhile, their main rivals in Manchester City and Liverpool are also planning ahead for next season despite having already won trophies.

City are keen on strengthening their lineup with at least one more key addition, while Liverpool got a big boost ahead of their Champions League final against Real Madrid.

This summer is going to be pivotal for these three clubs. So today, allow SBOTOP to give you the newest Premier League 2022 updates concerning these big sides.

Erik ten Hag has a promise to Manchester United fans

A new era begins at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag addressed the media for the first time since his arrival from Ajax.

During his first press conference with the squad, the Dutchman brought music to the United fans’ ears when he bared his ambitions for his new home next season.

Erik ten Hag shared that he’s an admirer of the Red Devils’ rich history and he wants to create a better future by winning trophies. Manchester United’s last piece of silverware was the 2017 Europa League, and they haven’t won anything significant since then.

The Dutchman heaped praise to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire, and Donny van de Beek, and he looks forward to get to know the team better in the next few weeks.

He also added that while Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been dominating the Premier League in recent years, he feels that the said era can come to an end soon and he looks forward to battle with those two renowned coaches.

City and Liverpool finished 35 and 34 points ahead of United in the table this season, so his work will be cut out for him this summer. However, Erik appears to be a highly determined individual who is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work right away.

Mohamed Salah insists he’ll stay with Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has been a hot commodity in the transfer market but he said that he’s going nowhere this summer.

The Egyptian goalscorer is out of contract at Anfield in 2023 and he has yet to commit to a new extension. Salah has already been linked to the likes of PSG and Real Madrid, but he will see out his current deal for the meantime.

For him, his main focus is on the Champions League where he’s keen on seeking revenge on Real Madrid, to whom they lost in 2018 when he was injured.

“I am motivated through the roof, especially after what happened last time and what happened on Sunday, everybody is motivated to win the Champions League,” said Salah.

“Coming off after 30 minutes the last time against Madrid was the worst moment of my career,” he added.

Other than Salah, Sadio Mane is another Liverpool forward who’s approaching the final 12 months of his current deal. He is linked to Bayern Munich as a potential Robert Lewandowski replacement, but he wants to wait until after the Champions League final before announcing his decision.

“Whether I stay or not, I will say it after the Champions League,” said Mane.

Manchester City not yet done in the transfer market

The Sky Blues are already one of the biggest winners ahead of the summer with Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez coming to town, but it seems that they aren’t done making moves just yet.

Pep Guardiola and co. are reportedly going after another quality midfielder since Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan are likely to leave this summer.

One of their supposed main targets is Kalvin Phillips, who has been a key player for Leeds United in these past few seasons. Other than City, the Whites midfielder is also linked with Manchester United, Aston Villa, Arsenal, and West Ham United.

Another option for them was Declan Rice at West Ham, but it’s unlikely that they will splash a ton of cash for him after doing so to get Jack Grealish last time.

If City are unable to get a hold of Phillips, they are certainly keeping an eye on Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, while they’re looking at Brighton’s Marc Cucurella as well to bolster their full-back depth.
