Premier League: Fulham Can Dump Spurs Into the Deep

Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur

Just four points separate Tottenham Hotspur from the relegation zone, and with 11 games to play, things could be getting quite nervy in the Whites’ world.

Spurs were well and truly slapped in the North London derby last week, and that made it three losses on the bounce, to make the Premier League table look rather grim for Tottenham and their new interim manager, Igor Tudor. Next up, they face another London derby when they visit a dangerous Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

Craven Cottage is in a beautiful setting, but Spurs will not be there to take in the view. They are in serious trouble and desperately need a result. The warning signs were there last season, when, despite winning the Europa League, Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League. The difference last season was that the bottom three were cut adrift, whereas this year, particularly West Ham United in 18th, are fighting hard and on a good run of results.

The strange thing is that Spurs are going well in the Champions League, finishing fourth at the group league stage, but that has only served as a nice distraction from the perils of the Premier League. And Marco Silva’s Fulham, currently 10th in the table and three points from seventh, a likely European spot, are a dangerous side to meet, particularly on their home soil.

After a poor run of results, the Cottagers picked up an impressive win away to Sunderland last week, and they will see this game as a chance to close the gap.

Talking Points

Cottagers’ impressive recovery bodes well

Fulham’s trip to Sunderland turned out to be a great day for the Cottagers after a frustrating run of three losses. Following a goalless first half, Raul Jimenez fired a quick-fire double, and after the Black Cats had pulled one back, Alex Iwobi made the game safe with a superb finish to a quick counterattack.

Silva was delighted with his team’s recovery from losses to Manchester United, Everton, and Manchester City, saying, “A big win. It’s very important because we came from some not good results. We wanted to bounce back.”

Sunderland had only lost their first home game of the campaign against Liverpool the previous week, and they made it hard for opponents.

“We had to keep the aggression. In the second half we were clinical. We prepare for these moments,” said Silva.

Romero suspension is damaging to Spurs

Premier League: Romero is serving the third of a four-match suspension following his sending-off against Man United
Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero reacts during a Premier League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford

It can’t be used as an excuse for such a poor run of Premier League 2026 results, but Tottenham’s injury list has been punishing for much of the campaign. Spurs have a deep squad, and they have performed admirably in the Champions League, but the English top-flight is relentless. Under the departed manager Thomas Frank, Tottenham won only seven games.

Destiny Udogie, Wilson Odobert, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, and Dejan Kulusevski are all out injured for the Fulham game, but the biggest miss of all is centre-back Cristian Romero, who is serving the third of a four-match suspension following his sending off against Manchester United.

This is Romero’s third suspension of the campaign due to two reds and an accumulation of yellow cards, but it is not out of character for such an aggressive player who stays on the front foot, often making risky tackles. His robust play means the Argentine star, alongside centre-back partner Micky van de Ven, is a goal threat too. He scored a late header to save a point away to Burnley, and this is a team without a cutting edge.

The current Premier League 2026 betting odds rate Spurs as the fifth favourites to be relegated, at odds of around 6.50, and that is a very nervous situation for this grand old club. They need Romero back for a sustained run, or the situation could become terminal.

History

Tottenham have won 22 of their last 43 games against Fulham to 11, and there have been 10 draws. And at Craven Cottage, Spurs are still ahead at 10 wins to eight with five draws. But the Cottagers have won the last two meetings, winning their home game last season 2-0 and picking up a 2-1 victory in North London in November.

Fulham have won three and lost three of their last six games, while Tottenham have managed one victory – away to Eintracht Frankfurt – two draws, and three defeats from the last six games.

Betting Tip

With Tottenham priced at 3.10 and the draw at 3.55, this game could go either way. But I believe Fulham will be back to their best against a side that is vulnerable to say the least.

For a correct scoreline, a 2-1 home win is at SBOTOP odds of 8.75. And while that outcome would keep the Cottagers’ European dreams alive, it would also bring Tottenham’s relegation nightmare into sharper focus.
