Belgium 2-1 Czech Republic
Belgium grabbed a hard-earned win tonight over Czech Republic thanks to a goal in each half from Michy Batshuayi and Marouane Fellaini.
Friendly football games can sometimes be a little too friendly but this was a great match to watch for live betting fans as a well-contested battle at the Stade Roi Baudouin ebbed and flowed.
Karel Jarolim’s Czech Republic were seeking a third consecutive win against Belgium, but pre-match betting tips didn’t give the visitors much hope. And the hosts had the best of the first half. Kevin De Bruyne pulled the strings in the early exchanges and Romelu Lukaku struck a post after a quarter of an hour. And ten minutes later, it was Lukaku who put in Batshuayi to put Belgium deservedly in front.
But the home fans had not long stopped celebrating when it was 1-1. Ladislav Krejci found Michal Krmencik with space in the penalty area and the young striker made no mistake.
Roberto Martinez has riches at his disposal and mixed it up after the break, bringing on Dries Mertens, Christian Benteke and Fellaini for Batshuayi, Lukaku and Radja Nainggolan. And it was Fellaini who made use of his head on 52 minutes to plant a Mertens cross high into the net.
The Czechs tried to hit back quickly, for a second time, with Ondrej Celustka and Borek Dockal getting shots away and Milan Skoda shooting high and wide. But in the end, the hosts held out quite comfortably.
Next up for Belgium is a trip to Estonia, as they try to extend their lead at the top of World Cup Group H, while the Czechs travel to Norway, hoping to make headway in Group C.
