Inter Milan vs. Genoa
The battle at the top of the Serie A table continues to tighten as Juventus and Inter Milan are playing cat-and-mouse with each other.
Since winning five straight matches, the Nerazzurri have drawn two against AS Roma and Fiorentina. They will be keen on strengthening their chances at the top spot with what should be a relatively easy match against the Griffins.
With Juventus winning over Sampdoria, it’s imperative that Inter Milan will win this one over the languishing Genoa happening this Sunday at the San Siro Stadium. Meanwhile, Lazio have been making their case as title contenders by winning seven in a row and they are not far behind with 36 points.
Genoa sank to the 19th spot at the table with 11 points and they are in danger to be relegated once more after a putrid showing so far this season. They have yet to win a Serie A game since late October.
Inter are expected to be heavily favoured in our Serie A 2019 odds since they have dominated their head-to-head matchups. But even with that said, Genoa are expected to bring the fight to one of the league leaders since they have no choice but to do so.
Today, SBOBET provides some important talking points ahead of this weekend fixture.
Talking Points
Inter missing some key players
Several reports indicate that team boss Antonio Conte is expected to make key changes to their lineup and formation for this match against the Griffins.
With several players expected to sit out whether because of suspension or injuries, the Nerazzurri’s midfield has taken a hit in particular.
Players such as Roberto Gagliardini, Stefano Sensi, Antonio Candreva have been injured at some point and it remains to be seen on whether they can play in this upcoming match in full fitness. On the other hand, Marcelo Brozovic and Lautaro Martinez won’t play since both of them are suspended prior to this game which is a huge blow to their attack.
That leaves the likes of Matias Vecino and centre-back Milan Skriniar as their prime candidates at the middle. However, both have enough experience to man the midfield especially for Antonio Conte’s system.
Furthermore, Inter Milan will still have one of Serie A’s top scorers in Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker currently has 10 goals for the Nerazzurri, and he has shown the capability to produce some of the best Serie A 2019 highlights too.
Even if they don’t play in full force, Inter Milan should pose a lot of problems for the shaky Genoa defence. They should have no problems in winning handily against them.
Genoa continue to be mediocre
Genoa aren’t really expected to make a lot of noise in their Serie A campaign this term, but seeing them fall into one of the dreaded relegation spots can be disheartening if you’re a fan of theirs.
The Griffins are currently 19th in the table with only 11 points, and much of their woes can be attributed to their porous defence.
They have already given up 31 goals so far this season, which is the second-worst behind Lecce. And at the same time, they’ve had some trouble in their overall fitness late game.
Particularly in their recent matches against Sampdoria and Lecce, Genoa were initially in good place to steal at least one point with the game still at a goalless draw. However, when the clock hits around the 70-minute mark, their backline falters.
It didn’t help also when some of their players get frustrated too. The departure of the likes of Kevin Agudelo and Goran Pandev against Lecce left their squad with only nine people, giving the latter an opportunity to score two goals in less than 10 minutes.
Due to their lacklustre performance, team manager Thiago Motta is reported to be in danger to get fired sooner or later. Genoa have only tallied one victory in his nine games in charge.
History
Inter Milan and Genoa have faced off 27 times where the former won in 17 matches while the latter won in five along with five draws.
In recent years, the Nerazzurri have dominated the Griffins by compiling nine goals total in their last two clean sheets against them.
Betting Tip
Inter Milan vs Genoa | Inter Milan Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 1.59 | |
December 22, 01:00 (GMT+8) |
As expected, Inter Milan are the odds-on favourite in the 1×2 market as they are placed at 1.37. Genoa are pegged at 8.50 while chances of a draw are at 4.50.
Antonio Conte’s side has a rare golden opportunity to boost their title hopes and this season’s title look to be theirs to lose. They are expected to get the job done especially with a deep lineup.
Genoa may have escaped relegation last season, but it looks like it’s just a matter of time on when they’ll be dropped from top-flight. With the way their campaign is going so far, they might as well enjoy this season and make the most out of their journey.
