Serie A: Roma and Sassuolo are Hungry For Goals and Wins

AS Roma vs Sassuolo

Reeling from the losses that they endured last week, AS Roma and Sassuolo have plans to bounce back when they lock horns this weekend.

Sassuolo continue their surprising run here in the Serie A standings since they remain at the top three with 18 points and are level with the second-seeded Inter Milan.

On the other hand, AS Roma are at sixth place with 17 points, and they are level with fellow Scudetto contenders in Juventus and Napoli.

Despite missing key players over the last few weeks, it is remarkable to see them both still thriving in the upper echelon of the Italian top-flight.

This props up to be a fun fixture ahead as both of these teams are playing with high stakes.

With a considerable deficit between them and league leaders AC Milan, a victory is much-needed for Roma and Sassuolo in order to close the gap.

At the same time, both of these teams have already provided us a good share of Serie A 2020 highlights, so SBOTOP fans can expect a cracker on Sunday.

Talking points

AS Roma now rely on their youth

With the Giallorossi being handicapped by COVID-19 and injuries, team manager Paulo Fonseca was left no choice but to dig deeper on his rotation.

In the past few games, AS Roma featured at least three players who are under 25 years old and the results have been mixed.

They were humiliated badly by Napoli in their last Serie A contest as they couldn’t stop anybody on the pitch, and at the same time they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Fonseca rested his veterans in their previous Europa League fixture against BSC Young Boys and it worked to perfection as they secured a 3-1 win to book the top spot of Group A.

Real Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral added on to his account while he was supported by Edin Dzeko and Riccardo Calafiori.

Riccardo Calafiori will prove his worth to manager Riccardo Calafiori in upcoming Serie encounter with Sassuolo
Riccardo Calafiori celebrates scoring AS Roma’s second goal in Europa League Group A match against Young Boys

This was a surreal moment particularly for Calafiori as he finally scored his first senior goal for the club after having suffered multiple ACL tears from 2018 to 2019.

His performance, along with Mayoral’s, should give Paulo Fonseca something to think about as they can mesh well with their veterans in Dzeko, Mkhitaryan, and Spinazzola.

Sassuolo miss Francesco Caputo badly

After going undefeated in their first eight games, Sassuolo cooled off for a bit when they were annihilated by Inter Milan in the last time out.

The Nerazzurri got big contributions from winger Alexis Sanchez and midfielder Roberto Gagliardini, while Sassuolo defender Vlad Chiriches recorded an own goal.

This was the second time that Francesco Caputo has been absent as the veteran striker is still recovering from a thigh injury.

Prior to his injury, Francesco Caputo has been leading the Neroverdi in scoring with five goals and two assists. So his threat at the attack will be sorely missed as he will sit out for at least a few more matches.

Second and third-leading scorers Domenico Berardi and Manuel Locatelli have combined for six goals and three assists, and they will do their best to try and compensate for their loss.

History

In their sample size of their last 14 matches, recent history is favouring the hosts to win this weekend.

AS Roma have won in eight games, while Sassuolo won only once along with five draws.

These two last met back in February where the Neroverdi blasted the Giallorossi, 4-2, when the latter was reduced to 10 men.

But months before that, AS Roma won over Sassuolo with an identical tally in the reverse fixture and that was Paulo Fonseca’s first managerial victory coaching AS Roma.

Betting Tip

??
AS Roma vs Sassuolo AS Roma Asian Handicap -0.50 @ 1.72
December 6, 22:00(GMT+8)

For this upcoming fixture, the hosts are expected to win via a substantial margin.

The Serie A 2020 odds back AS Roma to win at 1.72, while their visitors in Sassuolo are priced at 4.10, and a draw is also at 4.10 in the 1×2 market.

As mentioned earlier, both of these clubs can definitely pour in the goals. So you may also fancy placing your bets on either Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.77 or Over 2.50 @ 2.19.

Despite their surprising start of the season, this feels like the time where the Neroverdi will eventually cool off.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men might prove me wrong. However, it is more likely for me to see the Giallorossi taking care of business successfully this Sunday night.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
