Inter Milan vs AC Milan
It’s one of the most passionate clashes in world football, so get ready for the action as Gennaro Gattuso’s Milan takes on Luciano Spalletti’s Inter in the Derby di Milano.
The Giuseppe Meazza is the venue for the big Serie A matchup of the weekend, and this one promises to be a cracker. After slow starts to the season, both teams have hit a fine run of form. Inter sit in third; while Milan are back in tenth, only four points separate the two and both are building up a head of steam.
The Serie A 2018 odds are heavily in favour of another title for Juventus, and a first for Cristiano Ronaldo of course, but the Milan giants each have designs on a top-four place while neither have yet given up on the big prize.
Talking Points
The 2018/19 Serie A 2018 highlights will feature plenty of Milan’s finest for sure; both teams are blessed with talent and have huge followings in Italy and further afield.
Internazionale are on the up
Inter have Champions League football again this season, and who could forget the dramatic way it was secured with a final-day dramatic win over Lazio? And I Nerazzurri have made a fine start to their European campaign, with wins over Spurs and PSV, putting them in a strong position to progress to the knockout stage.
Last season’s joint-top Serie A scorer, Mauro Icardi, is looking as sharp as ever. He already has three league goals, including a well-taken brace in Inter’s victory over SPAL, just before the international break.
And Icardi has plenty of support and supply, not least from Ivan Perisic, who was the most influential player at World Cup 2018 in a Croatia team which, certainly in the early stages, played some of the best football in Russia. The wide man has continued his form back in Italy, already netting twice.
Radja Nainggolan has made the switch from Roma and settled into an attacking midfield position. And he’s a man for the big occasion, often the difference in bygone Rome derbies and never one to shirk a challenge.
Milan can join their city rival
Milan are ready to mix it with the elite again and had a last-gasp win against Roma thanks to a 95th-minute winner courtesy of Patrick Cutrone. While Milan must make do with Europe’s second competition this year, Cutrone also scored a double in a recent Europa League win over Olympiakos.
But Milan’s main man up front is 2016 Capocannoniere winner Gonzalo Higuain, who looks hungry and ready to challenge Icardi and Lazio’s Ciro Immobile for the title again. He’s one ahead of his Inter rival with four goals already to his name. Higuain was on target twice as the Rossoneri had a comfortable 3-1 win over Chievo last time out.
Giacomo Bonaventura — known as Mr Milan — was on target against Chievo and already has three goals to his name, so Gattuso has plenty of scoring options in his ranks.
And keeping them out is 19-year-old keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, the natural heir to Gigi Buffon as Italian stopper.
History
Who has the bragging rights in Milan? It depends who you ask, of course! Both teams have illustrious histories, and it is so difficult to separate them.
Inter have won a whopping 18 Serie A titles, but then so have Milan.
Inter won seven Coppa Italia’s to Milan’s five, but the Rossoneri won seven Champions Leagues to Inter’s three.
We love a tight game at SBOBET, and this couldn’t be tighter. The head-to-heads are tied at 21 wins each with 17 draws. And last season, Inter took four points in the league, while Patrick Cutrone was on target again as Milan put their rivals out of the Coppa Italia.
So who’s favourite for this one? Inter come into the game on a winning streak of six games, in all competitions, while the Rossoneri won four and drawn two of their last six.
Let’s take a look at the odds.
Betting Tip
Inter Milan vs AC Milan | AC Milan to score first @ 2.17 | |
October 22, 02:30 (GMT+8) |
This could turn out to be a shoot-out between two of the Serie A’s most potent strikers. Having said that, Milan look to have more players with their scoring boots on, and I fancy Higuain to notch the opener. Inter are at 1.80 for the first goal.
Studying the teams’ history and recent form doesn’t tell us too much in this case; form can go out of the window in a derby. It’s a really tough game to call with Inter at 2.44 and Milan at 2.89.
Which side of Milan will be smiling on Sunday night?
