AC Milan can clinch the Serie A title this weekend when they’ll take on Sassuolo for the penultimate matchday of the 2021/22 season.

I Rossoneri are leading the pack with 83 points and they’re banging in form, while their rivals Inter have 81 points and they will host Sampdoria on Sunday evening.

A win should cap off AC Milan’s campaign with the coveted Scudetto, but a loss or a draw would mean that their fate is no longer in their control. So along with this fixture, AC Milan would be hoping that Sampdoria will upset their inter-city rivals.

On the other hand, Sassuolo are currently 11^th in the standings with 50 points and a win here could see them enter into the top half for the third year in a row.

Inter Milan will be cheering for Sassuolo

Sassuolo’s offencive firepower is undeniable, but their backline needs improving especially against a cohesive AC Milan team. Their lack of clean sheets continue to be a trend as they’ve conceded 11 goals already since the start of April.

Head coach Alessio Dionisi has his work cut out for him since his squad is aiming for another Top 10 finish, and he insists that they aren’t doing any favours for Inter Milan, although the Nerazzurri fans will have their back regardless.

I Neroverdi finally broke their winless drought as they’re fresh from a victory over Bologna in what was another high-scoring encounter. Gianluca Scamacca had a brace while Domenico Berardi added one too, while Riccardo Orsolini scored the lone goal for the hosts.

Scamacca leads their scoring charts with 16 goals, while Berardi and Giacomo Raspadori are the team’s other double-digit scorers with 15 and 10 respectively.

Berardi is arguably the most dangerous man on the pitch for Sassuolo since he also has 14 assists, so AC Milan should have him on top of their scouting report.

Stefano Pioli’s men are in fine form heading into this contest as they’re on a five-game winning here in Serie A, and what better way to cap off the season with a Scudetto especially after missing out on another trophy since they were eliminated by Inter Milan during the Coppa Italia semis.

Inter Milan went on to win the Coppa Italia by beating Juventus in the final, which should serve as motivation for AC Milan.

AC Milan has all the ingredients to be a championship team with their robust backline along with goals than can be sourced from all over the pitch.

Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud are their top scorers with 12 and 9, but in recent weeks it was the duo of Sandro Tonali and Theo Hernandez who was popping up with key strikes.

Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu’s centre-half partnership has also been the key, and it feels like that it’s just a matter of time to where AC Milan can finally call themselves champions of Italy anew.

 

History

AC Milan have the slight advantage in their recent head-to-heads against Sassuolo. In their last 17 Serie A meetings, I Rossoneri have won in nine, while I Neroverdi have won in six along with two draws.

Stefano Pioli’s side cannot let their guard down against the hosts since they’ve lost to them in back-to-back meetings with an aggregate tally of 5-2.

Sassuolo won in their reverse fixture last November, 3-1, as Gianluca Scamacca and Domenico Berardi had one goal apiece to counter Alessio Romagnoli’s early score. To make matters worse for AC Milan, Simon Kjaer had an own goal while Romagnoli was sent off during the 77^th minute.

The hosts could win three matches in a row against AC Milan for the first time ever in Serie A. The last time that they scored a Serie A double against their visitors was back in the 2014/15 season.

However, AC Milan have won each of their last five league away games versus Sassuolo, and they’ve scored at least two goals in six of their last eight meetings at the Mapei Stadium.

They are pegged at 1.47 to win, while Sassuolo are priced at 6.60 and a draw is at 4.20 in the 1X2 market. Goals and Serie A 2022 highlights could come in bunches, particularly from AC Milan, so going for Over 3.00 @ 1.74 might be a solid bet while Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.23 is the safer alternative.
